SOURCE: 2000 ford truck starting problems

most likley the positive wire has corroded off the starter. look at the small red wire more closely, if theres alot of corosion, replace the wire (and starter if needed) if you dont see much corrosion give the wire a good tug just to see if it really is hooked up well. you should disconnect the batt. before doing any of this.hope this helps and good luck

SOURCE: 2001 Avalon was dead (battery). Won't start or jump

Assuming the motor is not frozen, you are probably not getting 12 V *at the starter motor* while cranking.
Also, try charging the battery; a dead battery may draw so much power from the jump that there still is not enough left for the starter - specially if you are using marshmallow $5.00 jumper cables.
Check it out and correct the problem (Bad ground?).
If this is a manual transmission, you can check tha the motor is not frozen by putting it in 3rd gera and rocking it to see if the motor turns. Remember to put it back in neutral befor you play some more with the starter motor

could be all manner of things, but i would start with the regulator/rectifier - get that replaced & work on from there, you could have seriously damaged the internal workings due to consistent jump starting, that should have been the time to ask what was going on , now you have just confounded the issue

My 1996 mercedez e320 only starts when I JumpStart

Connect a voltmeter across the battery terminals. While engine off, if the voltage is below 12V it means your battery is either dead or discharged. Once you've jump-started your car, check the battery voltage again. If it's still low (like below 13.5V) it may mean you have a problem with your alternator.
Let me know the voltages and we'll think what to do next.

Car running fine cut it off now want start make noises like battey is low but wont jump start

That's usually a corroded, burnt, crusty or loose battery terminal (connector), post, nut or wire. A seasoned mechanic knows how to check, tighten and clean all battery connection points and that lousy cheap cables can prevent a successful jump. You can check your battery in another car to see if it has the cold cranking amps necessary. A starter and a battery usually will go intermittent before going totally bad. it is dangerous around explosive fumes, such as a charging battery or fuel, but pass-touching or bumping the pos/neg jumper cables together for a quick test of battery and/or cable power has been the old way of testing for good power at the cables and battery. A good connection will spark very bright and loud - experience a good battery a few times and it is easily learned. Jumping from another battery without running the jumper engine will take a much stronger jump battery, even with good cables - starting the jumper car and letting it charge the dead battery for 3 or 4 minutes is usually enough for a good battery to come back enough to allow start. (Leave the cables on for the start attempt). Don't accidentally touch the cables together while still connected to either battery, they can fuse/weld and burn. Battery acid is toxic, smelly, explosive and will eat holes in your clothes. Don't drop a battery. Don't overcharge a battery, if it smells it is dangerous. I always blow away fumes as I am connecting battery cables. I turn off everything in the car when connecting them.

Lights and evertything else don't go on so I'm assuming its a completely dead battery.I know wear the battery is on my 1999 lumina but wear is the jumpstart terminal located?

Batteries have either top or side posts--some have both. Uncover the terminals and carefully attach jumper cables. Make sure to maintain the right polarity when you connect the other ebds of the cables to the good battery your are jumping from.

I forgot to turn off the lights in my car. What can I do to start the car running? Do I need to replace the battery?

You can either jump the battery, or remove the battery from the car and bring it to your local repair shop to have it charged and tested, (a lot of auto supply stores will do this for free so call around), or you can jump start your battery and hope it holds a charge.

To jump a battery you will need a set of jumper cables and a second car, or a battery booster pack, (nice investment, they really are handy in a jam).

To jump a car with jumper cables:
******* Always where eye protection*********
1) Open the hood on the dead car and locate the battery.
2) Park the second car as close to the front of the dead car as possible, (just try to leave enough room to walk around the vehicles if you can).
3) Open the hood on the second car and locate the battery.
4) Attach the red, (positive) cable clamp to the Positive, (+) terminal of the battery on both cars.
5) Connect the black, (negative) cable clamp to the negative, (-) terminal of the battery of both vehicles.
6) With the second car running leave the vehicle to sit for about 5 minutes then attempt to start the dead vehicle.
7) If vehicle fails to start, wiggle the cable clamps to create a better connection.
8) If vehicle starts, remove the cable clamps negative first then the positive.
9) You may consider bringing the vehicle to your local auto supply to have the battery load tested once the car has run for a while, (most auto supply stores will do this for free so call around)

Using a booster pack is basically the same, except, you replace the second car with the booster pack. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for charging the booster pack before use.

Good luck. Please rate, thanks.

Dead Battery wont even stall should I charge it using jumper cables??

You can jumpstart using jumper cables. Then drive car around to get battery charged back up or get a battery charger and charge battery.

ENGINE CRANKS BUT WONT TURN OVER

you meant its a NO CRANK engine.
silent starter, say the word silent.
even the starter relay must click.
and if head lamps die, so will be the starter.
due to a dead battery,
sounds like a bad battery to me. dead or only
DISCHARGED.
if the Charge/battery lamp is off in the cluster driving. its ok. the alternator.

starter car with the jumper cables connected
and not next day.
only live jumps matter. or you go know where.
if you want to walmart they have tool there that
tests the alternator
battery
and for phantom drains all in 6 min work, the tool does all the work.

if the battery is charged, it will crank I bet
its discharging.
for 1 of 3 reasons.
1: its bad.
2: the charge system is dead.
3: phantom drains, it goes dead as you sleep
the head lamps dead is the big clue there.
