Check your o2 sensors and replace if looking "burnt". You have two, an upstream and a downstream. They are a common problem on the 2006. Hope this helps!
I had this problem with my 2006 Trailblazer and it was the idle tension pulley. (If you change it yourself---don't make the mistake I did----get the spacer out of the old one and put on the new one-----spacer is hard to get!) Hope that helps you.
the fuel level gauge just went out na dthats why the light is on. to replace it you have to replace the entire sending unit. cost is $500.00 plus to have replaced. if you can live with it and keep check on your milage, I would wait for the pump to go out.
