I have a 1992 4x4 eddiebauer edition and unless I was doing 25 miles an hour mine would not kick in either. For low range I had to put it in 1 on the gear shifter

you must remove brakes, then remove axle nut, then remove upper control arm and finally tie rod stabilizer, remove axle from car then bearing can be accessed. this is a difficult job that requires special tools so be careful

Probably will although the solenoids and sensors will be different. Also the trans codes use are different. I highly recomend getting the exact trans for your truck for too many varibles make a conflict to these computer controlled transmissions

This can be caused by a problem with the connector under the truck to the transfer case electric shift actuator. Get under the truck and remove the connector to the transfer case actuator motor, check it for water intrusion or corroded pins (greenish color), if this found clean up the contacts with contact cleaner and reconnect. If this still doesn't cure the flashing light and 4 wheel low issue you may have a problem with the transfer electric actuator assembly that engages the 4 wheel low. The dealer can also hook up a scanner and read more diagnostic data through the communication link under the dash in front of the driver.
