It sounds like a classic engine misfire issue. Likely due to a failed ignition coli but it could be many other things. Have the computer scanned by a shop (Autozone sometimes does this for free, give them a call). Once you know which cylinder is the issue (and if that's the issue) you can troubleshoot.
How did you determine bad coil? was it not sparking period? I ask because coils rarely if ever go bad... What is the fuel pressure? Are the injectors firing? Spark plugs fouled? Other sensors to check: Coolant temp sensor? Manifold air temp or intake air temp sensor? O2...These will change your air/fuel mix at temp if they're bad...
When a faulty coil gets hot, it quits working, you have a 3 pack and they hardly ever go out in packs, usually one at the time and it will be misfiring and loss of power before the engine dies and the check engine light will come on. If check engine light is on, have the codes scanned to find out which coil is defective.
Otherwise, I would go for the ignition module, it is the flat part in wich the coils sit on. Check connector and wiring.
Check for spark in all 3 colis when no start condition occurrs, if no spark in nither one, replace ignition module.
