Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

The other day on the dashboard of my "2006 Pontiac G5 2.2L engine" a message came on telling me to check gas cap so I did, so I replaced the gas cap with proper new cap. message still came back on then went out after 2 days then the engine light came on so I looked under the hood and saw a PVC crankshaft hose had a 3/4" cut so I replaced the hose and we erased the code and light went out for a few days until I passed a transport truck after flooring it to get around the big slow moving truck. Any ideas???

Massive evap leak? oh my god i hate this..... first the new gas cap didnt fix your problem... the seal on them are@#$% . second, if your car is running when filling gas you get this message....third, make a rubber, cork,or leather seal to fit your gas cap or find a better fitting cap...doesnt have to be OEM.. hope this helps!

Testimonial: "Found the code...OBD11.."P0455" Pontiac Emission Control leak detected gross leak. Problems that causes this is common they say - Missing or loose gas cap, incorrect fuel filler cap used or filler cap remains open or fails to close, foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap, EVAP canister or fuel tank leaks, EVAP system hose leaking and fuel tank leaking. I replaced the gas cap and is on tight and no foreign objects in fuel filler cap and gas tank not leaking so it's not that and probably is a EVAP canister or EVAP system hose...hmmm."

SOURCE: 2006 Chevy Aveo Check Engine Light coming on and off

It needs a code scanner hooked up to it,to tell you why the light is on and the cause. If there is an autozone near you take it there or
call different auto part stores to find out if they do that.Without getting the code, it's just guessing what the problem is.

there is a large evaporative leak. keep away form ottozoo, they dont have the brain power to actually diagnose a light bulb., their job is to sell parts., if they sell you the wrong parts tough.Take it to a qualified repair shop that does a lot of GM work or the dealer.

Flooring it would cause change in ride / weight position of vehicle ---Gas in Tank moved / Sloshed around .. EVAP Hose that Vents gas odours to atmoshere when hot weather creates fumes / pressure Could Be Plugged ..MAYBE Early warning of Fuel Pump Failure so keep car under 1/2 tank an save alot of grief #@%^&*%$ IF this pump fails ..Fuel rail pressure ++ flow consistancy can be test at fuel rail port by gauge { autozone - O riellys } will also show weak injector when engine floored .

Hi have a pontiac G6 GT 2005 I have a message that comes on saying check gas cap the 1st time it happened it was under warranty and the dealership replaced the gas cap for me, a year later the same thing...

The fuel cap needs to be tight or it will set a code. It's a pressurized fuel system. Try to tighten snug the code should clear itself. If this does'nt work exchage the fuel cap, it may not be working properly.

2006 Saturn Relay Check Engine Light

PO455 is a large evaporative fuel leak. A bad fuel cap is ONE of the things that COULD be the problem. Fuel system cleaning only lightened your wallet. Reading your post is confusing. Did all this start AFTER the Valvoline Wallet Flushing? If so , they left something loose or disconnected. I would find a qualified repair shop to fix the problem, and if it has anything to do with what Valvoline did, make them pay the bill.

2006 pontiac grand prix 3.8 supercharged, check

you probably have a problem in the evap emissions system and a superficial engine diagnostic @ a shop will likely confirm this. a loose gas cap is the most common cause for this, so it tells you to check it first in an attempt to save you a trip to the shop. if the cap is new and tightened past 3 clicks, then the problem lies somewhere else in that system. there are many parts in that system, so it probably would be best left to a shop to figure out exactly what the cause is.

I have a 2006 grand prix and the check gas cap is on. Why?

Sometimes It will set a Code and After its Corrected the Light Needs to Be Manualy Reset By DISCONNECTING the POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL for 30-60 SECONDS AND THIS WILL RESET THE LIGHT.
