Did you mean to say no spark at all? The Jeep crank sensor is a common failure for no spark, just not the only possibility. But I would say you are going in the right direction. If I recall from an old Chilton manual, the testing of the crank sensor is limited to testing for resistance in all three of the terminals of the sensor electrical connector. A simple digital multi-meter for under $25 would suffice. You check resistance to current flow with an ohm meter, which is always part of a multi-meter.

You don't have to buy an expensive scan tool, although it would be nice. But if you have a digital volt ohm meter (DVOM), you can do wonders in diagnosing automotive circuits. Like for example, one of the first and foremost checks of the ignition system is to check for battery voltage going to the coils with the key in ON. Unless the individual coils are supplied battery voltage to their primary circuit, the coils will not generate spark. On earlier jeeps, this primary current was independent of the pcm. As long as the key was in on or run or start, power was being supplied to the coils. The computer did its magic by playing with the ground side of the circuit. Later, newer jeeps put more control of circuits within the reach of the pcm . Even so, the primary circuit must still get a voltage signal with key on. IIRC, jeeps had a dark green with black stripe wire for the power wire. If you don't have a voltmeter, go ahead and have the crank sensor diagnosed.

It's not turning over at all? that's battery or starter issue.

or do you mean it's turning over but engine wont start?

turn key to ON position and listen for a fuel pump, if you don't hear anything it could be that.

At least take the time to remove your computer connector & check & clean all contacts with battery disconnected, negative first.. Clean good with an electrical cleaner spray can. re-connect then re-connect battery, with negative last.

If you're saying that you already had the troublesome crank sensor replaced then maybe your electrical connections to the sensor is bad, somewhere, along the way to the ecu.

Could be a sensor.I'm thinking more along the lines of a fuel pump or fuel filter. If the fuel pump is going bad..similar symptoms.Would be advisable to install a pressure gauge at the engine, and check fuel pressure when it's acting up.
