With 3 tyres at $110.00 that equates to $36.60 a tyre so 4 tyres at the price would be $366.60 where as 4 tyres @ $250. each would be $1000 or 3 tyres @ $ 250 each would be $750. Get the price per tyre and adjust each quantity so that you are determining the same common denominator.

Brake Rotor (Disc) - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Loosen the wheel lug nuts.
  2. Jack up the front of the vehicle and support on jackstands.
  3. Remove the wheel and tire.
  4. Remove the brake caliper assembly as described earlier in this section, but do not disconnect the brake hose.
  5. Suspend the caliper assembly by a piece of wire. Do not allow it to hang by the brake hose.
  6. Follow the procedure given under wheel bearing removal in Suspension and Steering for models with manual and automatic locking hubs (lines down).
New rotor assemblies come protected with an anti-rust coating which should be removed with denatured alcohol or degreaser. New hubs must be packed with EP wheel bearing grease.
  1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.


Front Wheel Bearings - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

With Manual Locking Hubs
(see Figures 2 through 17)

  1. Raise the vehicle and install jackstands.
  2. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  3. Remove the retainer washers from the lug nut studs and remove the manual locking hub assembly from the spindle.
  4. Remove the snapring and spacer from the end of the spindle shaft.
  5. Remove the outer wheel bearing locknut from the spindle using 4 prong spindle nut spanner wrench, T86T-1197-A or equivalent. Make sure the tabs on the tool engage the slots in the locknut.
  6. Remove the locknut washer from the spindle.
  7. Remove the inner wheel bearing locknut from the spindle using 4 prong spindle nut spanner wrench, T86T-1197-A or equivalent. Make sure the tabs on the tool engage the slots in the locknut.
  8. Remove the outer bearing cone and roller assembly from the hub. Remove the hub and rotor from the spindle.
  9. Using seal removal tool 1175-AC or equivalent remove and discard the grease seal. Remove the inner bearing cone and roller assembly from the hub.
  10. Clean the inner and outer bearing assemblies in solvent. Inspect the bearings and the cones for wear and damage. Replace defective parts, as required.
  11. If the cups are worn or damaged, remove them with front hub remover tool T81P-1104-C and tool T77F-1102-A or equivalent.
  12. Wipe the old grease from the spindle. Check the spindle for excessive wear or damage. Replace defective parts, as required.

Wheel Spindle, F-150, F-250, F-350
Removal
  1. Raise the front of the vehicle and install safety stands.
  1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. Refer to Section 04-04 .
  1. Remove the disc brake caliper (2B120) from the rotor and wire it out of the way. Refer to Section 06-03 .
  1. Remove the dust cap, cotter pin, nut retainer, nut, washer and front wheel bearing (1216).
  1. Remove the rotor from the front wheel spindle (3105).

  1. Remove bearing cone and roller (1201) and wheel hub grease seal (1190). Discard the seal.
  1. Remove front disc brake rotor shield (2K004). Refer to Section 06-03 .
  1. Disconnect the steering linkage from the integral front wheel spindle and spindle arm by removing the cotter pin and nut and then removing the front wheel spindle tie rod from the spindle arm with Tie Rod End Remover TOOL-3290-D or equivalent.
  1. Remove the cotter pin and castellated nut from the lower ball joint stud.
  1. Remove the nut from the axle clamp bolt and remove the bolt from the axle.
  1. Remove the camber adjuster from the upper ball joint stud and axle beam. If required, use Ball Joint Removing Tool D81T-3010-B or equivalent to remove adjuster.
  1. stj~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Do not use a pickle fork to separate the ball joint from the axle as this will damage the seal and the ball joint socket.
    Strike the inside area of the axle as shown to pop lower ball joints loose from the axle beam.
  1. Remove the front wheel spindle and ball joint from the axle.

Removal
  1. Remove the front wheel spindle (3105) and ball joint assembly from the axle. Refer to Wheel Spindle, F-150, F-250, F-350 in the Removal and Installation portion of this section.
  1. NOTE: Lower ball joint must be removed first.

    Install the front wheel spindle in a vise and remove the snap ring from the lower ball joint.
  1. Remove the lower ball joint from the front wheel spindle using U-Joint Tool T74P-4635-C and Receiver Cup D81T-3010-A5 or equivalent for F-150. Use Ball Joint Remover T94T-3010-AH for F-250 and F-350.
  1. Turn the forcing screw clockwise until the ball joint is removed from the front wheel spindle.
  2. CAUTION: Do not heat the ball joint or the front wheel spindle to aid in removal.
    Assemble U-joint tool and cup on the upper ball joint, and turn forcing screw clockwise until ball joint is removed from the front wheel spindle.


    Installation
    1. stj~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif CAUTION: Do not heat the ball joint or axle to aid in installation.
      NOTE: Upper ball joint must be installed into the front wheel spindle first.

      NOTE: Individual ball joint tools are included in Ball Joint Adapter Set D81T-3010-A or equivalent.

      To install the upper ball joint, assemble C-frame assembly, Ball Joint Receiver Cup D81T-3010-A5 and Installation Cup D81T-3010-A1 and D81T-3010-A3 or equivalents inside cup D81T-3010-A4 or equivalent in position on the front wheel spindle.
    1. Turn forcing screw clockwise until ball joint is seated.

How to remove the right side axel shaft on a 98 olds bravada


1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly. 2. Install a brass drift or a screwdriver to prevent the rotor from turning, Fig. 7 . 3. Remove axle nut and washer. 4. Remove stabilizer shaft or link from control arm. 5. Remove nut from ball joint, then separate ball joint from steering knuckle using separator tool No. J-36226, or equivalent. 6. Remove drive axle from hub and bearing assembly using front hub spindle remover tool No. J-28733-A, or equivalent, Fig. 8 . 7. Remove drive axle from transaxle using axle shaft remover puller tool Nos. J-33008, J-29794 and slide hammer tool No. J-2619-01, or equivalents, if necessary, Fig. 9 . INSTALLATION 1. Install drive axle into the transaxle using seal protector J-37292-B, or equivalent 2. Seat snap ring by placing a screwdriver into the groove on the joint housing and tapping until seated, Fig. 9 . 3. Grasp the inner housing and pull outward. If the snap ring is properly seated, the axle will remain in place. 4. Install drive axle into hub and bearing assembly. 5. Install lower ball joint to steering knuckle and tighten to specifications. 6. Install stabilizer shaft or link to control arm, tighten to specifications. 7. Insert a screwdriver or drift into caliper and rotor to prevent rotor from turning, Fig. 7 . 8. Install new hub nut and washer, tighten to specification. 9. Install tire and wheel assembly, then lower vehicle

How to repair a lower ball joint on the passenger side

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove tire and wheel assembly, then install modified outer seal protector No. J34754, or equivalent, Fig.3 .
3. Remove lower ball joint cotter pin and nut, then loosen ball joint from steering knuckle using tool No. J-29330, or equivalent.
4. Position a suitable pry bar between suspension support and lower control arm and separate lower ball joint from steering knuckle. On some models, it may be necessary to remove nut attaching link to stabilizer shaft.
5. Locate center of rivet body and mark with a center punch.
6. Using a 1/8 inch drill, drill pilot holes completely through rivets. Using a 1/2 inch drill, drill final holes through rivets to ensure fitting of new ball joint.
7. Remove ball joint from lower control arm.
8. Assemble new ball joint to lower control arm with bolts provided in service package, Fig.9 . Tighten bolts to specifications.
9. Insert ball joint stud into steering knuckle and tighten nut to specifications, then install cotter pin.
10. Install wheel and tire and check front wheel alignment.

On my 97 the abs ring on the cv axle is almost gone!! made a turn today and the wheel almost locked up..any help??


I would have the cv axle changed along with any integral parts such as the abs ring.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the wheel cover/hub cover from the wheel and tire assembly, then loosen the lug nuts. Fig. 1: After removing the wheel/hub cover, loosen the lug nuts 86877115.gif

  3. Raise and safely support the vehicle, then remove the wheel and tire assembly. Insert a steel rod in the rotor to prevent it from turning, then remove the hub nut and washer. Discard the old hub nut. Fig. 2: Before removing the hub nut and washer, insert a steel rod in the rotor to prevent it from turning 86877116.gif

  4. Remove the nut from the ball joint to steering knuckle attaching bolts.
  5. Drive the bolt out of the steering knuckle using a punch and hammer. Discard this bolt and nut after removal. Fig. 4: Drive the bolt out of the front wheel knuckle using a punch and hammer, then discard the nut and bolt and replace with new ones during installation 86877118.gif

  6. If equipped with anti-lock brakes, remove the anti-lock brake sensor and position it aside. If equipped with air suspension, remove the height sensor bracket retaining bolt and wire sensor bracket to inner fender. Position the sensor link aside. Fig. 5: If so equipped, remove the anti-lock brake sensor and position it aside 86877119.gif

  7. Separate the ball joint from the steering knuckle using a suitable prybar. Position the end of the prybar outside of the bushing pocket to avoid damage to the bushing. Use care to prevent damage to the ball joint boot. Remove the stabilizer bar link at the stabilizer bar.     1. Slide the link shaft out of the transaxle. Support the end of the shaft by suspending it from a convenient underbody component with a piece of wire. Do not allow the shaft to hang unsupported, damage to the outboard CV-joint may occur.
    2. Separate the outboard CV-joint from the hub using front hub remover tool T81P-1104-C or equivalent and metric adapter tools T83P-1104-BH, T86P-1104-Al and T81P-1104-A or equivalent. NOTE: Never use a hammer to separate the outboard CV-joint stub shaft from the hub. Damage to the CV-joint threads and internal components may result. The halfshaft assembly is removed as a complete unit.
    3. Install the CV-joint puller tool T86P-3514-A1 or equivalent, between CV-joint and transaxle case. Turn the steering hub and/or wire strut assembly aside.
    4. Screw extension tool T86P-3514-A2 or equivalent, into the CV-joint puller and hand tighten. Screw an impact slide hammer onto the extension and remove the CV-joint.
    5. Support the end of the shaft by suspending it from a convenient underbody component with a piece of wire. Do not allow the shaft to hang unsupported, damage to the outboard CV-joint may occur.
    6. Separate the outboard CV-joint from the hub using front hub remover tool T81P-1104-C or equivalent and metric adapter tools T83P-1104-BH, T86P-1104-Al and T81P-1104-A or equivalent.
    7. Remove the halfshaft assembly from the vehicle. Fig. 7: These tools are necessary for halfshaft removal 86877121.gif

I have f250 4x4 with auto .When shifting floor lever to 4 high only back tires pull. but if shifted to 4 low all 4 tires pull. whats wrong?


I had this problem and took apart the transfer case. what I found was the shift linkage going through the side of the transfer case ( just a hole in the aluminum) had worn so the shift mechanism ( a steel plate that looks like a hand with fingers squeezed together) was passing beside the linkage to engage 4 high but would hit 4 low. I put some spacers in to tighten up the linkage where it went through the wall of the case and took out the shift mechanism ( hand like piece of steel) and heated it with the torch and bent it slightly so it would catch the 4 high linkage. worked for me for another 250 000km. lots of off road use. good luck.

Warning light for 4-wheel drive


I had this problem on my 1995 Montero. The 4-wheel-drive indicator lights wouldn't stop blinking when I switched from 4-wheel drive to 2-wheel drive. It turns out that I had a slow leak in one of the front tires. After I fixed the leak and made sure the pressure was the same in both front tires, the problem went away. 
This made sense to me because if one tire is much lower in pressure, it's closer to the ground, i.e. has a smaller radius, and therefore rotates more quickly. The manual says to drive in a straight line when disengaging 4-wheel drive but with the lower tire pressure on one side it was the equivalent of driving in a circle. 
You could try checking your tire pressures and see if that makes a difference. Hope this helps.
