Question about Seat Ibiza
Radio/cassette player & heater control assembly. Possible shared fault with electric system. AC Intermittently turns on causing all the heater controls to freeze. If the radio is turned off/on it allows the AC to be turned off & the heater controls will operate as normal once again. I suspect the master board is integrated within the radio player? Are these combination radio/LCD units a common fault requiring replacement to address this type of fault?

This symptom is often a sign the player is nearing its end of useful
life. But, sometimes it is merely due to a collection of dust, dirt or
a foreign object lodged in the mechanism. Sometimes it is a logic
error inside the electronic memories.
So, there are a number of possibilities.
Here is what I would do:
ONE: Do NOT force it or use tools to pull the disc out.
TWO: If you can find the wires that supply the 12 volts to the unit, pull that wire so there is no power to the unit whatsoever for at least 30 seconds. That will reset the electronics inside the player.
THREE: IF you cannot find the wires, or if they are too hard to get to, you can pull the plus cable off the battery; raise the hood and with a wrench loosen the bolt holding the plus cable onto the battery terminal. Pull it off for at least 30 seconds or longer, then put it back on. This will perform a hard reset as in TWO.
FOUR: If still no removal try this technique:
If it is not an expensive unit you may find it a superior investment to purchase a new player rather than pay a tech to repair it. (In the worst case the unit must be pulled, cover removed and disc manually removed; then you may find out there are damages or defective circuits awaiting further repairs; probably looking at a charge of $75 or more if you go to a service shop).
Let's hope the ideas above kick it out and it returns to normal useage.

Heater motor is prone to water damage when the small drain scuttle drain gets blocked (usually by leaves).
If the passenger footwell carpet is damp, that's probably the problem.
Worth checking regularly anyway, and/or remove the small cover over the drain which is part of the problem.
Remove the heater assembly (located over passenger footwell) and replace is the easy answer.
It is possible, depending on ability, to strip and repair.
New from Europarts around £130, used around £60.

found this on http://www.seatcupra.net: The heater issue will be due to the heater matrix. Its a black box on the passenger side, below the glovebox. You'll find a heater resistor that's your problem. Although the copper contact may not be touching behind the switch bit.

The lights on the steering wheel are in the switches. To fix the lights, the whole switch needs to be replaced. Same thing goes for the Tempature Controls and radio. Overall, I think it would be very expensive to replace all of the switches to get the lights working. I have the same vehicle, and almost all of the lights are out.
I think the lights behind the gage controls are replaceable, although you still have to rip out most of the dash to get to them.
I have the auto-sense wipers, so I was leaving the wipers on all the time, and the would only work when needed. The bad part I finally found out about this was that while the wiper switch is on (even though they were not wiping), it caused all of the dash lights, switch lights and rear parking light to be on. I think this alone significantly cut down on the life of the bulb.
For now, I am just living without the lights. The temperature control is very expensive (just the part alone).

You have one of two possible problems.
1) The temperature shaft retention nut is loose behind the knob
2.) The wires to the potentiometer part of the temperature may be broken.
Either one is common to this vehicle. The replacement of the AC controller is about 900 dollars. If the wires are broken, they can easily be reattached to the circuit board via soldering. What you would have to do is remove the control box from the dash, and disassemble it. Once the unit is apart, there are 3 wires from the temp knob to the circuit board that need to be re-soldered. The unit CAN be repaired, as opposed to the expense of replacing it.
