I got a code P0101 and have cleaned the MAF, should this fix the problem?

P0101 shows possible failing PCV valve as well as the MAF sensor. If neither of these fixes the problem, it's a possible PCM issue.

  • Inspect the harness of the MAF sensor to verify that it is not routed too close to the following components:
  • The secondary ignition wires or coils
  • Any solenoids
  • Any relays
  • Any motors
  • A low minimum air rate through the sensor bore at idle or during deceleration may cause this DTC to set. Inspect for any vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.
  • Inspect for any contamination or debris on the sensing elements of the MAF sensor.
  • Inspect the air induction system for any water intrusion. Any water that reaches the MAF sensor will skew the sensor and may cause this DTC to set.
  • A wide open throttle acceleration from a stop should cause the MAF sensor parameter on the scan tool to increase rapidly. This increase should be from 3-10 g/s at idle to 170 g/s or more at the time of the 1-2 shift. If the increase is not observed, inspect for a restriction in the induction system or the exhaust system.
  • A high resistance of 15 ohms or more on the ignition 1 voltage circuit may cause this DTC to set. A high resistance may cause a driveability concern before this DTC sets.
  • The barometric pressure (BARO) that is used to calculate the predicted mass air flow value is initially based on the MAP sensor at key ON. When the engine is running the BARO value is continually updated near wide open throttle. A skewed MAP sensor will cause the calculated mass air flow value to be inaccurate and may result in a no start condition. The value shown for the MAP sensor parameter varies with the altitude. With the ignition ON and the engine OFF, 101 kPa is the approximate value near sea level. This value will decrease by approximately 3 kPa for every 305 meters (1,000 feet) of altitude.
  • A high resistance on the 5-volt reference circuit of the MAP sensor may cause this DTC to set.
  • A high resistance on the low reference circuit of the MAP sensor may cause this DTC to set.

Engine lite on --- p-101 showed up on tester.

Start by cleaning the MAF sensor. Then check for an air leak in the air duct from the air filter box to the throttle body and also disconnected or leaking vacuum lines. See this article for a full discusssion of P0101 codes

ABS and MAF are the codes. You need a good auto-electrician.

I need to know what the fixes are for P0101 code.

It appears to be a maf sensor code. With some makes and models, you can try cleaning the maf. Sometimes, with engine idling, you can tap on the maf, see if it effects the idle, if it does, then it is the maf sensor. You can also check maf sensor wiring circuits. If all else fails, you may have to replace the maf.
Are there any driveability issues, I'd imagine there would be? The maf sensor is usually located in the air intake, before the air filter.
What is year--make--model, it didn't post for some reason?

What are these codes and how do I fix them? P0101 P0171 P0174

  • P0101 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Performance
  • P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1
  • P0174 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 2
  • Would start with the mass air flow sensor the other two codes may have been triggered by the performance of the MAF sensor. Is the vehicle running poorly or have high or low idle?

    Engine code P0101 engine runs rough and smells rich

    code P0101 it means that MAF meter is out of range .no reprogramming the ECM is not gone fix youre problem, the car may have a vacuum leak check the vacuum hoses check you're EGR valve it may be stuck open with carbon also check fuel pressure regulator for fuel leak out of vacuum hose,and if everything is OK change MAF sensor .before that check MAF connector to make sure is not loose or open

    2004 Chevy Blazer. Poor acceleration, limited rpm. Code p0101

    Check your catalytic converter, good chance that it has broken apart and is blocking exhaust flow. Common Chevy 4.3L Issue.

    P0101 Mass or volume air flow circuit performance problem

    P3131 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) System Control Limit Exceeded

    Dirt and carbon build up will cause this in some cases. You might try removing and cleaning the MAF sensor with an electrical contact cleaner first. You will still need to clear the error codes with VAG-COM and see if they return.

    Hard starting.. check engine on P0101

    Replace the filter but don't try and clean the MAF sensor,Just replace it.
