First things first, It sound like your tranny may of had its better days. Yes your sincronisers maybe worn out. but some toyota trannys have a shifter that has a broken seet and/or worn bussing.
this is what it looks like.

This is the bushing.

These parts are in the top of the tranny where the shifter goes in i would start there. If it is fine then start thinking about a rebuild. I hope this helps. I believe these parts a less than 20$.

Marlin Crawler sell them.

It sounds like the cluster is gone bad if everything is not working. Usually, if just the speedometer isn't working then it's the speed sensor on the transmission that has gone bad. But I think you have a cluster that has just died. Check on EBAY for a used cluster and ask them to roll the mileage to what is on your vehicle now.

How to replace speedometer cable on 1992 Toyota pick up?

That particular model does not have a cable, it is an electronic speedometer with a speed sensor mounted in the transmission. Check all the wires coming from it, then the sensor and last check the actual gauge in the dash. Here's a link to check the speed sensor. How much tranny fluid do you need to put into the transmission of a 1991 Automatic 4Runner?

These are total capacities. You need to compensate for any residual fluid you have in your system.

I will list the transmission type then the capacity to the side of the transmission type. All transmissions take regular Dexron III fluid

A43D 6.9 qts
A340E 7.6 qts.
A340H 10.9 qts.

Wont pick up speed

from the way you describe this, I am assuming this is an automatic transmission. Sounds like clutch packs are shot and the trans needs rebuilt or replaced.

NO 4 WHEEL DRIVE

Hello, If you have an automatic transmission put it in neutral and push the brake and while your doing that try to shift into 2WD. If it still won't move then try backing up about 30 feet and then try and shift. If you have a manual transmission make sure your pushing the brake while you're trying to shift and back up if needed. Good luck, let me know what you find.
