Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I have a 1992 Nissan Terrano that has been submerged. Since then I have drained all the water from the fuel tank, primer pump and the diesel pump and lines. There seems to be NO power at the dash and will only run when eather is sprayed in the intake. When running there is a bit of black smoke which turns to a grey colour then goes white. Could this be a problem with the glow plugs or there control box or something else. NO water got in the intake and I have replaced the exhaust pipe. Any help would be appreciated as this is my own personal company truck

The clue is in the colour of the smoke , if it turns white then you still have water in the engine , fuel system etc somewhere , have you at the least change the engine oil ? i would advise also getting the tank pump changed ,and then the electrics would seem to be affected so remove what you can and spray with something like WD 40 to dispel the water , good luck keep me posted

Cheers Steve I have had the truck running again. I have replaced all circuit boards apart from one. All oils/fluids etc replaced. Glow plugs replaced. Fuel filters replaced. But I still have a problem. The truck runs rough has next to no rev range, won't idle, grey-black smoke and really hard to get to move forward but will reverse with ease. Any ideas

are the injector spray patterns as should be ? have you tested the cylinder compression's ? keep me posted as this sort of thing is very interesting (to me ) frustrating to you though, lol

Cheers again Steve. Injectors are spraying properly now. There was still some droplets of water in the injector pump. Your help has been much appreciated

Terrano running ruff when under quater of a tank diesel

Depending on your year it could be a weak lift pump not being able to lift the fuel to the injection pump, in which case the injection pump will be quickly damaged as it relies on a steady flow of fuel to lubricate and cool it.
on older models there may be a break in the pickup line inside the tank. Suggest you keep tank above quarter full at all times until you decide what to do..replace lift pump or remove tank and check pickup......

Nissain Terrano Runs pourly when under quarter of a tank of diesel but fine when over quarter

the fuel tank may need cleaning, sediment appears to be blocking the pick up tube when tank is at quarter, or the pick up tube may be broken at that height and the system cavitates at 1/4 tank

Nissan terrano switches off then starts

If you changed fuel filter, check pump output. Or you have dirt in the fuel tank. Drain and inspect tank.=, or line going to the filter for clear fuel flow.

I have a 1990 isuzunpr 4bd1t diesel.Truck won't stay running.It is a fuel issue.Drained water seperator,changed fuel filter,cleaned inline screen before the primer pump.Had primer pump rebuilt.Replaced...

I dont know if this will help but i had a similar problem with an isuzu sbr and after doing all that you have done i took the fuel tank off and drained it. Every thing looked fine so i washed it out with a little bit of petrol and a small piece of clear plastic came out. What it was doing was floating up when the truck was not running but after i started the truck it would slowly get sucked down to the outlet and block the fuel line.
It was very frustrating and it took me quite a while to find the problem.
hope this helps.

Where is the primer pump[VW Golf 1994 Deisel]

Check the fuel tank, in the boot there should be a round black cover on the floor to remove and pump is there.
