With the technology built into todays cars the simple basic troubleshooting is pretty much gone. When the "Check engine light" comes on it could be a thousand different things. The only way you can tell what it is, is to get a diagnostic read out from the onboard computer. You can usually go to an auto parts store and ask if they could do a code read for you. Once you have that, you'll at least have a direction to start in. You can also buy your own ODBI code reader; plug it in, get the read outs, and then refer to the codes for that car. You can find them online.

Motor cuts out then recovers

number of things can b causing this issue.. start by testing fuel pressure. must b 45-50psi and hold that pressure after u shut off truck. if pressure is not above 45 then replace fuel pump and filter.. faulty pumps dont cause a check engine light to come on. if pressure is with-in spec then check the wiring harness at pcm they are known for having an issue ....

Engine cutting out eingine light on. i changed the spark pluggs, cap, rotter&wiresand fuel filter

if the engine is cutting out then why change all the things you have listed as none of them have any relevance to a engine cutting out with engine light on,now the first thing i would check is the engine breather pipes for deterioration as a iar leak on the manifold will cause the engine light to throw up and the engine to cut out on idle

My 88 fiero is cutting off on me. afther it worms up the service engine ligth will come on and when u go to stop it will stall out and cut off, and when u crank it back up and go to put it in gear any gear...

You will have to get a diagnostic done on the car, to find out what is causing the service engine light to illuminate. That is most likely causing your cut-off problem.

The car sometimes come on then cuts off, why?

A lot of times if the car just cuts off then the check engine light will come on and store a code in the computer. If you take the car to Autozone then they will pull the codes for free and tell you what would cause the problem. But usually it is either a cam sensor or a knock sensor that causes the car to quit.

My 2004 kia optima was skipping last night then the check engine light came on and it cut off. after it set all night it started back up this morning only to cut off again. where is the fuel filter...

OK, the gas cap and fuel filter things are fair W-A-Guesstimates...but you need to supply more info for any of us to help you accurately.

How were you driving when it "cut off"? Were you driving along smoothly at a fixed speed over 35mph or on the freeway at cruise? OR, were you accelerating from a stop, or pressing hard on the gas to accel hard or to go up a hill, were you turning...had the engine been running awhile(Was it fully warmed) or was this immediately after startup?

Fuel filters dont come and go. If its plugged causing loss of power, waiting 1/2 an hour or overnight wont unplug it and make it run better. The Catalytic converter could plug up and the symptoms are nearly IDENTICAL to a plugegd fuel filter in most cases. If the car cut off only under heavy load (acceleration or up a hill) then it still may be the fuel filter restricting flow. However if it cut off at idle or when coming to a stop, the odds say it isnt as they rarely plug instantly (Only if some kid dumped sugar or **** in your tank). They plug up slowly and regularly so you will 1st noticet he problem usually for days or weeks as only under acceleration, but it will usually idle FINE till it plugs completely. If it even IS a fuel problem. You REALLY REALLY need to get the trouble code that turned on the Check Engine lamp pulled for you with a scan tool. Any repair shop should be able to do that for a diagnsotic fee, or some auto parts stores still will do it for free or a fixed rental charge (like 10 dollars plus security). It may not even BE a fuel problem. It could be a crank sensor, sticking EGR, an electronic throttle problem, spark leakage...or 1000 other problems that can make it misfire, stall the engine, and cause general unhappiness and sore feet. We need to gather evidence and data to accurately direct you.

96 Ford Windstar runs rough, check engine light on

Sounds like you have some EGR ports clogged up, remove the intake and look at the egr ports all but
#1 cyl port will probably be at least partially clogged, hope this helps
