Have the codes read at auto parts store. I suggest the oxygen sensors need replacement at 100k miles. these would make hard starting and run fine after warm up.

You might try replacing the TPS. The TPS senses how much fuel is needed to start and keep engine running. It is located on the TBI drivers side it will be black are gray with a three wire plug going to it. O FYI the TBI sites on top of the intake looks like a carb. Good luck

My past experiences with this exact problem on different vehicles has been caused by one of two things. First and most likely, Usually a temperature sensor has failed. Either the Intake Air Temperature sensor, or the Engine Coolant Temperature sensor (the one for your computer, not the dash gauges). I've had them fail in such a way as to constantly tell the computer it's cold, thus the computer never had a code or Check Engine light. The effect is like trying to start an older vehicle (or lawn mower) with full choke, once the engine is already hot.

The second thing I've had happen is a leaky fuel injector. I've had one with a slight internal leak (most likely just dirty and sticking partially open) so that after shutting off the engine it would slowly drip gas down into that particular cylinders intake port. It would bleed off the remainder of the built up fuel pressure in the line. On many vehicles the fuel line is designed to retain pressure when off. A steady decrease in pressure when turned off indicates a leak or failed pressure regulator. In the situation of a leaky injector, trying to start the engine for just a few seconds after the 30 min wait time, then pulling all the spark plugs, easily found one spark plug completely wet with gasoline. That indicated the cylinder which had a faulty (or possibly just dirty) injector. The engine oil also smelled like gas after a while, as leaked fuel has a tendency to migrate down past the cylinder rings into the oil. An oil change is necessary in that case after the repair is made.

PLEASE post back with an update as to what you found wrong.

Sounds like a fuel problem, not a firing problem. first check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail, if its above 40psi, the fuel pump and fuel filter are probably ok and you need to clean the injectors. It's most likely the fuel filter if it has not been replaced in 100,000 miles. I'd change it FIRST, and run some injector cleaner through it. hope this helps.

With out knowing more details I will make a few guess's and a few suggestions.
1. From what you have described it sounds like its getting flooded when its cold.
1a Now that can be a few causes actually several but I would check for a problem code in the computer, If the check engine light blinks when you turn the key on; that is likely a problem code. Midus will check you car or truck for a small fee some stores may check it for free and give an estimate. That would be a shortest and fastest way but possibly cost a few dollars to find out. If you know anyone who has a Diagnostic Machine or here is a link that may help figure it out..
http://www.allpar.com/fix/codes.html

1b Check to see if you are getting spark when its cold. This can be tricky and Possibly get you shocked so please be careful. If you are getting good spark then I would focus on the trouble codes in the computer. If you are not getting spark check the wiring for loose or corroded connections to the Ignition system. With Some Dode trucks the ignition module gets it's power directly from the ignition switch so check the wiring at the ignition switch on or near the stearing column as well.

1c. Make sure the oil change is recent and then next fill up put in a can of good quality fuel injector cleaner. CD2 fuel injector cleaner is what I would suggest. Check the fuel quantity it will treat in other words you may need two or thee bottles depending on the size of the gas tank. And check and change any filter that is dirty or old especially the air filter and fuel filter.

Try disconnecting the Pos. Battery cable and grounding it to the Neg. Cable, this should reset the ECM and make the computer relearn all the settings. Sound like you have a too rich fuel system. Could be bad O2 sensors causing the computer to call for more fuel also you can replace them or pull then out and clean them with sand paper on the outside then spray or soak them in Carb clean, then low the slots or holes out with air and as long as they aren't bad when you rest the EMC that might straighten it out if it is a fuel problem. There are many other things that it could be in the fuel system That also can be cleaned or replaced that control the amount of fuel that the computer calls for. Testing for codes should give you a list of all the possible things that it could be before you start replacing parts or cleaning things.

I Can only give you clue at this time, your cold start
system (choke) is telling the computer its cold when
its not, and sending rich mixture when engine is still
warm, try scaning for code first, possible sensor or
switch problem.

The "wait to start" light is your glow plugs. You must have a loose connection to them or something not connecting. They come on almost everytime you start them, hot or cold.

then i would replace whats called the hall effect sensor its that black plastic plate you see when you take dist cap off. just pull rotor and lift up the sensor.dist cap is what holds it on.also under the sensor will be a stamped sheet metal piece that looks like the top of a castle wall. make sure its not loose on the shaft.if it is then new dist will be needed

Check your idle air control motor. It isn't starting because your not getting air going into the motor, when you press the accelerator it allows air to enter so the engine starts.
