A leak in the head gaskets will allow water to enter into the oil system. The water pressure is much higher and the water will flow into the oil if a weak spot develops in the head gaskets then hen it is getting water in it the oil will have a milky look to the oil. Running the engine like this will burn the entire engine up. Changing head gaskets(s) is a major job, might consider trading it for a different one. Make sure that the oil level on the dip stick is well above the full mark. This is about the only test to find out for sure that water is getting down in the crankcase.

Oil and water mixing is the intake manifold gasket and or head gaskets. If it has been the way for awhile. Replace the engine.

White milky substance in oil on dipstick when i checked it

You have a blown head gasket. Water is bypassing your head gasket and has mixed with your oil. Take to your mechanic, will have to resurface cylinder head, new gaskets, water pump, timing belts.

My 1999 e- class burns oil Mobile 1 0W-40 where as the engine oil that was put in the US did not burn. Now that the car is in use in Nigeria what do you advice me to use?

Switch to non synthetic oil, of the CORRECT WEIGHT for your engine (specified in manual and on oil cap). and see of that stops the consumption.
There is a semi synthetic available from Castrol, called high mileage blend. This oil actually helps consumption issues.

If no external leak and the transmission fluid colour looks white, the problem belongs to the automatic gearbox oil cooler. The oil cooler has broke mixing the gearbox oil and coolant causing this milkshake. It's a small radiator core type oil / water heat exchanger. It is cracked inside and transmission oil is mixed with engine coolant. Because the transmission oil pressure is greater than engine coolant pressure, the transmission fluid level drops. See also the coolant colour inside recovery coolant reservoir inder bonnet! It could be like this:

The automatic gearbox oil cooler type oil / water heat exchanger (oil cooler):

In the picture above the transmission oil pan was removed for oil filter replacement.

The check engine light does not come on because it needs an oil change. You need to have it scanned with an OBDII scanner and it will give you diagnostic codes leading you to the problem.

I had the same problem with my T5 130. My mechanic replaced the head gasket to no avail, then we checked the oil filter, that was ok.then we went on to a web forum and found out that the AXD engine suffers from water pump failure. We took it off and it was corroded, the seal had failed and was pumping water into the block. My advice,CHECK WATER PUMP FIRST! Good luck Marc,Somerset.
