This is sometimes caused by a bad O-ring that seals around the fuel injectors on some types of diesel engines.

SOURCE: my truck blows white smoke

Hello!
There are two differnt reasons for black and white smoke coming from the tail pipe.
Black smoke means fuel runs rich (car getting to much gas). Check fuel pressure/air filter.
In some cases the white smoke means car is burning oil or transmittion fluid. Have tem checked/replaced.
If you can feel a smelly smoke it can be catalytic converter.
In a worsest scenario if car blowing white smoke it can be engine coolant is getting into an engine cylinder from a bad head gasket ,or a warped/cracked head. So you need to keep your eye on coolant level and check your engine for overheat. Also might be good to check your oil for traces of coolant (on a dipstick it would be a milky substance mixture of oil and coolant).
Good Luck

SOURCE: 2004 nissan armada low idle then won't start

I had the smae problem with mine last week, it turned out to be the IPDM Independent power distribution moduel, looks like a big fuse box. I would take it to a side mechanic and have them fix it instead of going to the dealer it took like 45 mins to take the old one out and put the new one in. If you go to the dealer they are sure to charge something crazy. Hope that works for you.

Have your mechanic check the car for a leaking head gasket; in the early stages white smoke - coolant being burned - will show up; you would not see any leaks, as the leak would be INTERNAL; driving with a defective headgasket will for sure cause more severe damage to the engine!

You have damaged the engine, the smoke is from burning coolant in the engine due to a blown leaking cylinder head gasket or gaskets. Do not drive this or you will completely destroy the engine.

Car hard starts and rough idles and cuts off when attempting to accelerate this is a1989 230e model, it produces a black smoke

Black smoke is burning oil, blue is unburnt fuel. If you are burning oil sound like valve seals in the head are failing.
