SOURCE: check engine lite stays on

If you disconnect the battery for 1 minute and reconnect it the check engine lite will reset. when you start your vehicle again the lite shouldn't be on unless the problem is still present. If the problem is still there the lite will come on again and you should take it in to a shop and have it diagnosed for engine codes and see what the problem is.
Try disconnecting the battery first though before you go spending great amounts of money on something that was probably just a minor glitch in the computer.

Bets of luck and let me know if this has helped you.

Check battery and see if it can be fully charged. If there is an indicator on the battery it should be green or measure the voltage with the engine off and see if it is close to 12Vdc. If the battery tests good there could be a problem with the electrical wiring or a bad device that draws current when the car is off. Glove box light gould be on, trunk light stays on etc...

1997 plymouth breeze is running rough and the exhaust smells like gas . replaced plugs made no difference

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IF YOU GET A SMELL OF GAS THAT IS AN INDICATION OF THE ENGINE RUNNING RICH. THIS IS USUALLY CAUSED BY A BAD O2 SENSOR. YOU WILL NEED TO SCAN THE VEHICLE IF A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON.

Hi my name is Allen!

When the check engine light is on this means there is a problem somewhere in the powertrain control system, which could be almost anything.

Here is what I need you to do, drive your vehicle to AutoZone or another auto parts store near you and have them pull the codes for you. Then get back to me and let me know what those codes are, and what the scanner say the code means.

We will move further with repair procedure after I know what the code or codes are.

Waiting for your reply!

1998 Plymouth Breeze 2.0

HI Larry.... Did you ever get the codes scanned? or has the light not come back on. From what you are describing, It sounds like you may have an O2 sensor gone bad but there could also be other problems. If you haven't checked the codes and want to try the O2 sensor, it may be the cause but a code would really help. It will narrow the problem down . Hope this helps . Let me know if you need more info.

Timing belt has nothing to do with fuel issue. If you're only running on 2 cylinders...you need to find out if spark is missing from those cylinders. Also possible that when the timing belt was replaced, it was not timed properly which can bend a valve, causing rough running.
