Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I apologize if I wasn't clear enough in my question. Can the plastic peice (shift indicator seal) be replaced as a stand alone part or does the whole assembly have to be replaced? Thanks!!

SOURCE: Headlamp assembly question

two ways to fix, walmart will do it here for 40.00 while you shop, but if you are up too it I can tell you how. You can do it yourself with the help of some 1200 grit wet sanding paper and a buffing compound and buffer. It's not hard but if your don't have these thing already available to you walmart is the way to go.

firestone is very expensive. i have replaced many half shafts and depending on the vehicle, it is much cheaper to replace it yourself. you can probably replace both halfshafts for what firestone wants.

What do I do to fix the gear shift indicator on a automatic transmission?

The gear shift indicator is just a peace of plastic it could be broken or just come lose. I think that car has gear shift on the floor. Normally are screws on the side of the plastic cover on each side. Just remove the screws and lift the cover and you should be able to see if the pointer broken or just needs adjusting. You should not have to try on it. just remember that it is just plastic. good luck Jerry

Hi .My Subaru forester 2010 does not shift gears at all. Then I realized a bunch of the transmition fluid (if not all) on the on the driveway . The car did not indicate any problem before this whole...

If you drove the vehicle to the driveway, and then the next day got in it and started it, tried to shift, went nowhere, shifted back into park and shut off the engine, I would have to say no damage done, but I will bet that the dealer will try to sell you another whole new transmission anyway. I bet the bad seal just needs to be replaced and then fill it with fluid and all will be well. If they try to sell you a new one, tell them you will call them back, call an independent transmission shop, and ask what they think about the situation and go from there.

I have an 84 gmc jimmy, tuesday i went to turn the key and it just free spun with out catching. i have no power. i tore my steering column down to the tilt section, and i am at a stand still. the peice i...

it would be alot simpler to replace the whole column than to try to replace the component parts. the whole column you can purchase for 75.00 or less with the key there are like 4 bolts some have 6 and then 1 or 2 nuts to release the universal joint at the floor totally replaced in a half an hour maybe a bit longer
if that gear or ladder bar are messed up inside the column it woud be caused by binding due to excessive wear. rebuilding the column can be done but it takes time and expense and in the event of tilt wheel, air bags ect some special tools and experiance to get the job done.
