Alot of factors to consider here. The burnt smell like oil, rubber or? Could be several things, pin leak in one of the hoses, belt going out, pully or other.

Have you had to top up the engine oil recently ? if so a small amount could have easily dripped onto the exhaust , if so will burn away quite soon , if not then check for any oil leaking

SOURCE: My car recently got checked
I would say that it is ok to drive, but keep tranny fluid up where it belongs. if low on fluid the tranny may start slipping in gear. the smell may be tranny fluid on hot engine. if it leaks a lot do not drive it. if it leaks a little just keep fluid level up there. just keep checking it after you drive. good-luck!!

Well if you had me as a passenger you wouldnt smell nothing ,cars never play up when i get in them for some strange reason ,To be honest ask a local mechanic to use the car for a couple of days so with a bit of luck it will happen when hes driving it and as soon as he smells it he will know what it is ,it could be antifreeze ,radio ,wires, plastic on exhaust down pipe ,anything in fact have you had a new exhaust fitted recently ,are cats getting in somewhere ?? very difficult to point you in the right direction sorry

SOURCE: I think I`m smelling
Take a whiff of the exhaust. If you smell unburned gasoline there, you have an engine problem such as a spark plug not firing or a leaky injector. In this case you may also have an exhaust leak letting fumes get into the cabin.
It's also possible you have a failed gasket on a fuel injector or improperly seated spark plug. This will also cause poor gas mileage, but if the engine is well-balanced it may not have noticeable roughness until you try to accelerate up a hill. You would probably not see liquid fuel run out since it is sprayed as a fine mist, but look for exhaust streaks on the head around the injectors and plugs. You may also see exhaust vapor from the problem location if you run the engine in cool humid weather. (If you use an infrared camera, you can probably spot it immediately).
A readout of the engine data from the computer may be useful - a cylinder with substantially different operating parameters is a good place to look first, especially if there is a significant number of misfires.
I considered the possibility of a small leak on top of the tank where you can't see it, perhaps around the fuel pump or level sender, but I haven't yet figured out why the odor would be stronger during acceleration in that situation. Perhaps increased air flow around the tank evaporates the lost fuel faster and stirs the vapors around more thoroughly. Is there a way you can work a small rag onto the top of the tank around the pump and sender to see if it comes back dampened with fuel? Do you smell fuel around the tank right after the engine has been running?

sound like you have had a circuit over load from a short and now there will be burnt wires under the dash . Check for what wires have burnt and then check the fuse size for that circuit as it should have burnt out before the wires did.
