SOURCE: my battery light is on

Sounds like your voltage regulator is acting up, and at times will not let alternator voltage reach the circuit. At this point car stars drawing on battery alone (triggering battery light) and working until it is out of juice. Before you buy a new voltage regulator, make sure that its contact points on the alternator, and the plug from it to the vehicle circuit is clean, shiny and making good contact. These parts, due to their location tend to collect dirt and moisture, leading to an intermittent performance before they stop working completely.

SOURCE: my 2004 chevy impala dash lights wont come on

first thing I would check in this car is the dimmer switch, all you power for the dash lights go through it. check it with a meter to see what voltage is coming out of it, if this all checks out OK the move to the next thing in line, this would be the connection at the back side of the insterment cluster, use a good contact cleaner, I use CRC works good for me. now if this does not clear it up then you will have to inspect the clust printed board on the back of the cluster, look for hot marks, this will look like discolored spots just like a burn, sometimes its more suttle than an odviouse burn mark. I hope this helps you in your search for a solution. If you need a wiring diagram of what wire is what send me the Specs ont he Vehicle (year make model engine size)

The alternator grounds itself by being bolted onto the engine. Could be the brush and diode assembly nreds replacing. It is a common cause of the problem you mention. It normally bolts off with a screw or two right where you plug the wires into the alternator

Hey Steve, if you need a jump to start it then every thing is working except battery holding power try putting battery on a SLOW charge for a day then try again when its running check output of altinator with a fully charged battery it should be 12.5-13.5 volts and rise when you rev motor up ,when you jump it im thinking the battery is very low and the altinator is trying to recharge battery and it cant do that in just a few minutes running time or take it on along ride and watch amp gauge .good luck Steve.

Go to You Tube Video & see how to do a parasitic CURRENT

What you have done so far with a test light & volt meter is basically
doing nothing

You need an amp meter & a wiring diagram, then pull fuses one

prints to test that circuit for voltage drops

If the alternator is charging the battery, and it goes dead overnight, you have a short to ground in the wiring that is draining the battery.
You can try disconnecting the negative battery cable and see if the battery stays charged when the engine is off.
If it still goes dead, the battery could have a dead cell.

Check your ground wires. Sometimes the ground wire to the alternator needs to be grounded better and will cause this issue. Also make sure that the negative to the battery post and to the engine block is grounded completely. If the alternator is charging at 14.2 volts then it is good and your problem is something else to do with electrical. The other thing that you can always do if you wanted to double check is take the alternator off the vehicle take it into a auto parts store and have them test it for free.

not sure about an external regulator, your local auto parts store could tell you that, but i think your problem is the alternator is not grounded good, find the ground wire and trace it to where it is grounded, take the ground end loose and get a piece of sandpaper and sand the metal where it is grounded , reattach securely

This will not completly answer your problem. But, your really need to check the large block fuses and circuit breakers. It sounds like you may have a bad one. Also, check your grounds. Make sure the engine to body grounds are in place. Hope this helps, these squirlly things are typical to bad ground issues. BW

Audi 100 wont start no electricity on spark plug

have you looked at the engine earth/ground cable, run another earth from the negative terminal to the body(wheel arch) and then to the engine block and try again. As you would know its a proccess of illimination and this was the most simple thing that came to mind. Let me know how it goes.
