Heater blower motor works intermittently

The heater motor in my truck only works sometimes and a lot of the time when it doesn't if you smack the heater box under the dash on the passenger side it will come back on, sometimes when it comes back on the motor doesn't run as fast as it should. It always gives the most trouble when the weather is cold outside, in the summer it does not do it as often with the AC

Hello Osbourne,
heater or 'blower motor's are prone to bearing failure, which can cause interference between fan & heater box;stopping,or slowing fan.consult a shop manual to DIY,or have a mechanic check blower motor .[I have found a stockpile of acorns causing a problem a time or two!!] Hmmm,Summer OK;Winter.........O nuts.......good luck!

SOURCE: A/C and Heat Driver Side Intermittent Problem

You will need to replace your driver side temp actuator. It is most likely sticking or over travelling. It is located under the dash directly below the a/c control head. It is bolted to the a/c box upside down with two small bolts. Let me know if i can help more.

SOURCE: heater blower motor works intermittently

I would replace the blower motor, this sounds like a motor brush problem inside the motor itself.

SOURCE: blower motor does not work

I had the same problem, replace, replace, replace. Check, check and recheck. What I found was the blower motor resistor, located in the blower squirrel cage area, two prongs and a curly wire, was bad. Took the new one back, (it ohmed out okay, continuity ok, all ok!) replaced it with another, and Bingo, problem solved. Frustrating to say the least. After two relays and a blower switch, and test, test and retest. It was a faulty resistor. Made in Mexico. And no guarentee, even though new, it works. Trial and error. Even the dealer parts are Honcho en Mexico. Thanks NAFTA. You gonna make us all welfare babies.

SOURCE: Heater Blower won't work

Find the blower motor on the passenger side just above where the passengers feet would be. You may need to remove a panel (fairly easy). You will see a round metal housing about 4" in diameter. Turn on the ignition key and blower motor. Then tap the housing with a small hammer or a screwdriver. If the blower comes on.....replace the motor. If not, find the wires leading to that motor, undo the connector and check for power and ground in them.(You did check fuses first...right?)

AC/Heater Blower Fan in 1990 LS400 works intermittently

Due to the age of your vehicle, the brushes in the fan motor are worn out. you will have to replace the fan motor, it is not serviceable.

Heater fan not operating

Most of the time when a heater blower quits working it is the blower switch that fails rather than the motor. Blower switch can be accessed in the dash panel.

My heater periodically works in my 99 ingrigue. Super frusturating. When i start it sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

The temperature display and the heater function are likely two different issues. I had a similar issue with intermittent heat on my 2001 Aurora. In my case it turned out to be the blower motor. As a vehicle ages and the bearings on the motor start going bad, the amount of energy it takes to spin the motor gets higher and higher. This can result in intermittent behavior or cause the heater resistors to go bad. It is also possible that the heater control itself is the issue, but with the age of this vehicle, I would start with the blower motor and then heater resistors.

Heater fan runs part of time

If the first 2 speeds are not working, but the rest do than check the blower resistor module, in the heater case on the right side below glove box. If all speeds work, but cut out or sometimes don't work, check the connector at the blower motor, and the connector at the blower resistor. You may find one melted, usually the black wire. If nothing obvious found, you will probably need a blower motor as it is intermittently working (on the way out).

1997 Explorer heater/ac blower stopped working. Was making clacking sound prior.

you can try to smack the motor to see if it comes on (old trick)
its where the passanger feet go smack the large black box on the bottom. if it comes alive you need a motor. and by the sound of the clacking, also sounds like a blower motor. be advised that you can **** things off the pass floorboard when in recirc mode. i have removed lots of debris from blower motors. :)
