SOURCE: battery drainage

Hi,

Possibly any of the diodes inside the alternator (most likely). In some instances, it could also be the regulator whether it be internal;/integrated to the alternator or external.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

SOURCE: 1997 park ave battery dies over night

I just posted my experience in another place on this site but on my 1992 PA the accessories relay stuck closed. This relay is the one that allows you to listen to the radio etc and keep things on until you open the door then all shuts off. When it is stuck closed accessories keep running until your battery drains dead. The relay was replaced and all worked great.

Sounds like an open ground. Maybe make sure the wire that is on the neg terminal is connected to the body about 6 inches away. Also a mechanic is responsible for his work for 30days. Every mechanic all over the world operates under this law. It is a law

Not sure where the fuse is, but more than likely the fuse. Try pulling 1 fuse at a time and make sure they are all good. Hope this helps.

Check battery drain using test light

Check for any of the interior lights especially the glove box staying on, or one of the door switches stuck in the on position.. Other option is to pull all the fuses, then replace them one at a time overnight and monitor the battery. Soon as the battery gets drained you've found the circuit causing the problem, then troubleshoot that circuit.

1989 buick park avenue battery wont stay charged

A possibility is an ignition fuse has blown when the radio was removed. Does the battery light light up when the ignition is turned on. The alternator needs that light to energise and charge, (without it you just run the battery flat), failing that charge the battery, connect an amp meter in series, with every thing switched off, should have a reading of about 0.5 amps (Time clock). If above 2amp that is what is draining the battery. Watch meter and pull fuses one at a time, when the reading drops, that is the circuit/equipment that's causing the trouble.

The light stays on? then that is the drain, check and see if you pull fuse that controls that light will battery still drain. i would bet that this is the problem, if it is the problem let me know in a few days and i will check a wiring diagram to try and see what controls that light. i believe the keyless entry module does but lets see if that is the problem.

try removing the dashlight fuse over night or even light few, until that light goes out and let me know.

HeI have a battery drain problem in my Lincoln 2004. I recently purchased the vehicle at an auction. Two very experienced mechanics have declined working on diagnosing this problem because they both said...

Excellent description and repair thought process!! Yes the other mechanics probably saved some sanity by passing on the job. A test light used in series on fuse box will help speed along your fuse pulling technique. just a few minor thing to contemplate are lights that you cant see. check trunk light and hood maintenance light that are supposed to be off when closed but might not be. Check car at night for any lights on at all, Have charging system tested, alternator could be bad causing drain. Good luck.

Check your alternator. I had the same thing happen when I gave someone a jump. For some reason they go out after you jump someone. I would have the alternator checked and go from there.
