Open tailgate, pull back trim/look in cubbyhole space on fuel filler side of the car. Locate motor and manually activate lock plunger.

Once you have the trim off you can see the motor - look for the rod thats poking into the fuel flap and just move it with a pair of thin nosed pliers - if you then disconnect the plug it won't re lock when you lock the car - have you checked all the fuses as for the central locking to stop it has to be a fuse.

How to open petrol cap

you may have to get into the boot and remove any trim to the filler tube area. This will give you access to the flap lock system that holds the door closed . If there is a solenoid there you may be able to manually pull the rod that releases the flap lock or move the whole thing to let the flap open

Drivers door and fuel cap not locking with central locking have to lock door with key also fuel cap does not lock all other doors lock and open with central locking drivers door opens with central locking

Hello Alan,

I would suspect the fuel flap actuator has failed. Open the trunk. In the right rear corner is the access cover. Open it and you'll see some insulation matting near the top. Behind it is a fuse/relay carrier, I believe either fuse 55 or 56 is blown. If so the fuel flap actuator needs replaced. The fuse also controls the central locking system.

Vw polo 2003. Fuel filler flap won't release when central locking opened. Is there a manual override?

There probably is. My 99 Audi A4 has a release cable in the trunk. It's behind the trunk lining above the filler neck. Mine's red for easy identification - just pull it and it pops the gas door. While it's open, spray the lock with some white lithium grease or PB Blaster, and work it in. It may be that the latch is just sticky and those should clear up its operation.

Same as above central locking dead, interior light not working and only the trunk working

Sounds like maybe you could have a bad fuel flap actuator. Look in the trunk on the right side where the battery is. There is a fuse panel there and on the access trim cover is a chart for the fuses. Check the fuse for the central locking. If it is blown suspect the fuel flap actuator.
