First spray it really good with P.B buster or something along those line then try getting a smaller socket and using it if it doesn't want to go on then tap on the bolt with a hammer once you have the socket on the bolt just try loosing it slowly so you don't snap the bolt head off

SOURCE: Can't get my starter off of my 1992 linoln town

If the bolt head is stripped, if there's enough space, I would get a 4" grinder w/cutting wheel and cut the head of the bolt off. Once the starter is pulled out of the way, spray liquid wrench or some other type penetrating oil onto the remaining stud, let it sit for 20 min, and then begin removing it with a pair of vice grips, channel locks, or a small pipe wrench. You may need to tap the stud a few times with a hammer to jar it loose.

Loose gear shifter, have a hard time finding gears. how do i fix

check the bolts on the linkage going from the column to the transmission. probably just need tightening. (generally the bolt ON the transmission shift plate that connects into the transmission shaft is loose) Probably takes a 10 mm socket

Locating the starter

most cars have the starter by there tramsmission which should be underneath the head of engine and in back in some cars is hard to get to when there is lots of stuff in the way to get to the bolts like my car which is a daewoo so fun it takes to take the bolts out so it takes lots of patience and time to take off any starter. Here is a photo of your cars starter : The starter has three bolts to it but the photo will help you out so you know what it looks like when you look for it. Its not that hard to find it but it might be hard to get it off the car though.

Need to remove steering column on a 1992 lincoln town car

Remove the steering wheel, turn signal reset (plastic), remove clip and spring. Remove trim to expose the entire colum. Disconnect all connectors. There are four main bolts holding the colum up. Remove the bolts and lower the colum. At the end of the steering shaft there is a bolt going through the colum. Remove the bolt. The colum can then be removed.

First disconnect battery. Use a floor jack to lift vehcile from passenger side. Use floor jack to help hold up car for safety. The starter will be located ton the passenger side. It is held by two bolts. There will be one wire to a 10 mm nut. remove. There will be a couple of wires in cluding one from the baterry to a big bolt remove the nut. Remove the two bolts being careful as starter may drop. You can use the floor jack to help you since the floor jack is suppporting the vehicle. Reinstall in reverse.

Starter removal

Disconnect the Positive Batt cable. then remove the wires from the starter. To reach the top bolt you need an extra long extension or I use several put together. You have to come in from the front of the engine, across the cross member. The bottom is no problem. Then take it out.

How do you replace a starter on a 1996 lincoln town car?

There are three bolts holding the starter on. One or two of them are extremely difficult to access. But it can be done with a very long extension by coming in from in front of the motor mount. Disconnect your battery first and you can remove the wire and cable from the starter after you can tilt it forward.
