You did not indicate if the key turns or not ... but regardless ... it sounds like you have a trunk latch mechanism issue and not a key lock issue ... and your remote cable from the passenger compartment to the trunk is probably broken. Not a good situation.
I am not familiar with the back seat of that car year/model ... but I would try to remove the bottom part of the rear seat to then see if there is a way to remove the top section of the seat. What you are trying to do is gain access to the trunk from the back seat ... since it sounds like your mechanism is jammed.
A low odds of success could be to take some pressure off the mechanism by pushing down on the trunk lid and then trying the key .. probably will not work but it is easy to try
Open the door to the seat you wish to access. Locate the bolts holding the seat assembly in place. They will be positioned on all four corners of the seat assembly. Adjust the seat all the way to the back to access the bolts in the front. Loosen the bolts with a socket wrench and pull the bolts from the floorboard. Repeat this for the other front bolt. Slide the seat as far forward as possible to gain access to the rear seat bolts. Remove these bolts with the socket wrench. The seat will be loose from the floorboard. Tilt the whole seat to the dash to gain access to the wiring assembly underneath. Disconnect the wiring by separating it from the connectors. Use some help to lift the seat from the car. The seat may be bulky or heavy to lift. The driver and passenger seat are installed the same way.
fronts are bolted in ,move seat back and forewards to gain access ,rear seats should lift out to turn into a van,,, think you lower back tilt seat then pull a lever or a strap ,my galaxy comes out easy but getting them back in ,,,,so heavy
ok on the side were the tilt handle is un bolt that theres a cable that should be hooked up to it it might be jammed or it might be off that could cause it not to come back
Make sure there are no obstructions under the seat. Check the switch first. If the other functions are working then the power circuit is OK. I have a feeling its the motor. Best way to check the system is to unbolt the seat from the floor and lean it back to gain access for testing. It could be a broken cable or pivot points frozen also. But I still feel its the motor. This is a system that is generally not used often and the motors have a tendency to stick. While holding the switch down tap on the motor with a hammer to see if it starts working.
YOU HAVE A SWITCH OR A TILT ACTUATOR MOTOR PROBLEM. LINCOLNS HAVE 5 OR 6 ELECTRIC MOTORS MOUNTED ON THE UNDERSIDE OF EACH FRONT SEAT WHICH REQUIRES REMOVING THE SEAT TO INSPECT .THEIR ARE ALSO CABLES ATTATCHED TO THESE MOTORS SO LISTEN WHEN YOU HIT THE TILT SWITCH DO YOU HEAR A MOTOR NOISE? IF YOU DO THEN YOU MAY HAVE A BAD CABLE.
When you move the switch for the backrest, listen for a motor noise. If you can here the motor running, the most common problem is the cable from the motor to the gear set that moves the seat back. To replace this cable you will have to remove some of the upholstery to gain access.
There are 3 motors mounted under the seat to move the postion of the seat, the cable for that motor maybe broken. Also check that the pivot points move freely and that there is nothing jammed in the seat tracks.
This is a common BMW problem before giving to a mechanic try looking at the mechanism to see if any bolts are loose or missing, you might find the bracket is broken or torn and needs to be welded or replaced, the job is relatively easy but be carefull because of the SRS system if not sure give it to an expert.
If the other functions work, like tilt, etc. There may be someting jammed in one of the tracks, like money, a penny will do this. Also, these seats have cable problems from the motor to the seat transmissions. The seat will prob need removed, shop usually charges 3 hrs labor to repair.
