I have an 89 240 gl that is not getting fuel. It idles okay, but will only go a couple of blocks and will bog down and shut off. I had both fuel pumps replaced($500) and it drove fine for two weeks and is doing the same thing again. HELP!!

Well this could be in your timing. As cars get some miles on them the timing chain stretches therefore causing you car to lose alot of power. So you may want to have your timing set on this car. Also I had a taurus that had a bad torque converter, and it lost alot of power on hills and under loads, also when i gunned the gas pedal. so try the timing first. Hopefully you dont have a bad head gasket or a cracked head these symptoms you are describing are all signs of head gaskets or blown heads

does it have spark? you did verify fuel pump working properly? could it have a clogged converter? is the engine lite on?
SOURCE: car is stalling and idleing irradically.
I Would Suggest That You Complete A Engine Cylinder Leak Down Test.....(not A Compression Test But A Leak Down Test) this will tell you if you have internal problems....possible worn rings or a burnt valve(s) I would use a smoke machine to check for vacuum leaks also. Good Luck

You should open the hood, put someone else in the car and have them rev the engine while you observe the engine because pinpointing it will really help.Even though you are not running the A/C,the compressor is still being turned by the belt. Also, right now I would make a diagram of the belt routing in case it breaks. Some cars do have a sticker with the diagram under the hood, usually toward the front. If you do not use your A/C much, the bearing may be hanging up as well as any part belt driven which you have not replaced and may be making it squeal. Also,if your compressor ends up seizing, and you do not use the A/C much, and is expensive to replace(which also happened to me),I searched and found another car with the same exact engine but was made with no A/C.I had a Buick and the substitute was a Chevy. Most of my answer is for future possibilities but for now just try to pinpoint it and go from there. Some cars just do squeal after time but you also had bogging and stalling which is not normal(obviously). Also inspect your belt.Check the edges for fraying.Check the width for cracks. Many small cracks fairly close together or a few large cracks a couple inches apart is cause for concern. If any of these are present, you should at least get a belt to keep in the car in case it snaps.I would put off replacing for now until you can figure out what is happening. My answers are usually lengthy because I try to inform, educate, and give almost every scenario which could happen so there is no surprise.
Good luck! Greg
