1994 camaro Z28 Convertable automatic. When driving when you release the gas pedal there is no engine braking. Engine will return to idle instanly. At all RPM's. Transmission shifts smooth during...

I'd hazard a guess that the torque converter disengages from "lock up" when you lift your foot. This would let the engine instantly idle down, and would produce no braking effect from a closed throttle.

Try driving it (at a lower speed) in direct, rather than overdrive, and see if the same thing occurs, or if you get the expected braking effect when you lift your foot off the throttle.

  • does the engine miss? bumps is a rythmic pattern?
  • an engine miss will appear to diminish at higher rpm due to centrifical force.
  • other possible problem broken or flat motor mount.
  • is the idle rough in reverse?
  • if not
  • open hood
  • start engine
  • Left foot on brake (hard)

  • does engine dramatically move?
  • if so replace motor mount on offending side
  • if not possible engine miss or transmission problems

1994 Eihgty eight comes to a stop cuts off if i dont have foot on the brake and gas at the same time when I stop. It idilies fine in park what coud this

Here are the common cause of surges, cold stalls, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours.
To correct this problem I want you to get a can of intake cleaner (ABOUT $5.00) from any local auto parts store like NAPA or Carquest, do not use carburetor spray, intake cleaner only or u will damage the Teflon coating inside the throttle valve and air bypass valve, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

2004 Camry lurches forward when stopping.

Sounds like the torque converter isn't unlocking quick enough. Drive at 45mph,keep foot on gas and use other foot to touch the brake and watch the tach to see if it speeds up,when converter releases. Check trans fluid level hot.If it is more than a couple years old, change. Use the correct fluid for Toyota and add a bottle of Lubgard. Have the throttle positon senor scanned and check any idle control circuits. Throttle Body may need cleaning.

Feels like the brake is always on & gains no speed

When was the last time you open the transmission ? Is it a standard, or automatic transmission ? When was the last time you change your breaks ? Jack the wehicle up, and try to turn the tires with your hand. your breaks might be too tight.

Transmission leak,sluggish drive, pull

Release your parking brake :) Just kidding. Next time it does this sluggish thing, Put it in reverse and apply your brake, firmly and safely.then see if its still sluggish going forward. don't hit the brakes or hold then when you dhift to drive but don't dally and give the guy you just backed into a chance to get to you. Kidding. Ok, no more joking Starting out from a forward stop, vehicle feels sluggish. Stop vehilcle and back up a few feet stopping firmly. Now realese foot brake and put in drive, DON'T REAPPLY YOUR BRAKES SHIFTING INTO DRIVE.see if sluggishness is still present. If it is, Your rear brakes may not be fully retracting or they are over adjusting, adjusted. Automatic brake adjusters sometimes like to over do it. If your trans fluid is low, then maybe it can feel funny but not held back. If the back and forth thing provevs to free the brakes then have the brake checked. But seriously, to save embarrassment make sure your parking brake is FULLY RELRASED. Good luck and please let me know if I've helped you.

Car wont start

when you press the brake pedal the brake master cylinder vacuum booster takes vacuum away from the engine and that slows the idle speed just enough to trigger the low pressure oil light. Pull the oil pressure sending unit out and hook up an oil pressure test gage, if the pressure is above 15 PSI hot engine idle in drive replace the oil pressure sending unit.
