Possible causes include: bad ignition wire, bad plug, bad valve, bad injector, bad rings.

Diagnose by starting with compression test on all cyl, see if one is lower than the others. If so, squirt a little oil in it, and if compression comes up, it's rings....

SOURCE: 2002 mercury sable. misfiring. taken it to get

first take it to have the codes extracted then post them and I may have an idea as to what may be wrong with it. I know autozone will extract the code for free some other shops may as well.

The Codes 302 & 303 are cylinder misfire codes, google them

Spark Plugs have nothing to do with misfires,it would be rare in

Forget the 316 just misfires on start up

2002 Mercury sable misfiring only on cylinder 3

Can't believe some the lame answers here. Anyone having this issue check the PCV hose where it attaches too the air intake, the rubber breaks down and develops a leak. But these engines also have wiring issues that causes crankshaft sensor to fail at startup or under 1000 rpms causing the computer to shoot a code and trigger the engine light. I have these issue cause the above problem.

My car is cutting off every time im going under 1000rpm. mercury sable 2002. codes were p0301 p0302 and p0316 until i changed crank sensor and spark plugs now it says p0316 p0305 p0306.. whats going on?...

Hi

P0305 is misfire in cylinder #5.
P0306 is misfire in cylinder#6.
P0316 is misfire on start up.
Have the plugs on those 2 cylinders, and the 2 fuel injectors checked, also check for spark from the coil on those 2 plug wires.

Please get back to us if you have further query or else please accept the solution.

Car misfiring what could cylinder 3 misfire be

Well. Your car has a 6 cylinders, the front cylinders are 2, 4, 6
the rear cylinders are 1,3,5.

Try it. and if that cylinder has a misfire, probably could be a spark plug,, wires or distributor.

good luck

2002 Saturn SL1 check engine light code P0303

replace the coil it is most likely bad. observe the engine at night or in a dark environment and proceed to use a spray bottle to lightly coat the coil pack for that cylinder number 3 and if you see an arc at the coil or any where else this will confirm a bad coil but even if you don't see any arcing it still may be a weak coil.
