Very simple buy a new one and find transmission remove 2 wires and unscrew old one get ready for fluid to spill out and screw new one in and connect wires. but how do you know old one is bad ???,

Here's a site that has a specific manual for Your year http://www.oldcarnetwork.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=MP0229 the other option is search about a bit at swap meets and such and find a "shop manual" as they are a wealth of info(they where used at dealers in their day).You can sometimes find these manuals in Your local library as well so it may be worth a look see there.Best of luck and happy Oldsmobiling:>:>:>

Where is the neutral safety switch located on a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442?
It is located on the steering column under the dash. It is white switch that is about 3 inches wide. The easiest way to access it is to remove the plastic panels to get to the two nuts that hold the column to the dash.

I put a new starter in and it won't turn over... Dash lights up and I can get it to start..it is a 1969 Oldsmobile 442
make sure you got juice from battery jump from solnoid wire to hot wire on starter with key on in run position.
also do you hear clicking or anything at starter

hard info to come by , if you look at base of steering collum you will see 4 wires on a plug 2 are for reverse lights and 2 are for neutral safety use a test light it figure out witch one it is.

I believe that is all run by vacume, being that old vacume hoses can be brittle or broke. You might try National Parts Depot, Original Parts Groupe, even some of your major auto parts stores may carry some of the parts you may need, When i restored my 67 chevelle i got a lot of my heater parts thru N.P.D. and Advance Auto and they all have on line catalogs.
