My 1995 Lincoln Town Car starts when it wants to

It is possible that the ASD (Auto Shut Down Relay) has gone bad. The ASD provides signal/power to the fuel pump and to the engine coils. It is usually located in the fuse box under the hood. The fuse box cover should indicate it's location. The ASD is often a square relay and there may other such relays that look the same and have the same configuration of pins in the fuse box. If so, one may be the horn relay. Often relocating one of the other nonessential relays (horn relay) to the ASD position will allow the engine to start. If so, replace the old ASD relay.

I saw what you replaced. What testing have done? Generally, if it cranks good but won't start, have a helper crank it while you check for spark at the plugs, if spark everywhere, use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Also, check fuel injector pulse. If your missing everything, I'd check for rpm signal. A lot of Chrysler makes and models, the computer has to see proper signal from cam and crank sensors or it won't ground the asd relay. The asd relay supplies voltage to several systems, including ignition coil and fuel injectors. Engine cranking, do you have primary voltage to those two components? Use a test light. Any applicable trouble codes?

Check coolant temp sensor. This acts as the choke did in old carb engines and is a common part to fail.

Usually the Ford products have an Inertia switch which cuts off the power to the fuel pump. On some models, this switch is in the trunk right next to the Air-ride control. It has a button which just needs to be reset and then all is good.

If you can't find the switch in the trunk, it should be around the front floor kick panels.

anti theft system wont let car even attempt to turn over so that's not the problem. low fuel pressure is more likely

Is the fuel pump relay getting power from the EEC relay when you turn the key on ? And then is the fuel pump relay sending power to the pump ?

Put the line back together and give the fuel tank a light whack with your hand or a rubber mallat while trying to start it.if the fuel pump is dead,the vibration may start your fuel pump working.good way to verify

First, try swapping the eec relay with a known good unit and see if the problem persists.
Second, you could be experiencing a problem with your ignition module overheating, causing high resistance in the circuit. When the vehicle sits for a while, the circuit cools and will allow the current to flow again.

possibly have water in the gas or fuel pump/filter clogged.

check the emergency safety switch for the fuel pump. should be located on the L side of the trunk side panel
