Then it is the cable from the battery to the starter. Corrosion will make it's way down inside the cable. Corrosion causes resistance. Too much resistance causes not enough voltage/amps to a particular part.

It may be possible that your alternator is bad and discharged your brand new battery. Take both the battery and the alternator to your local parts store and have both checked.

SOURCE: When starting the starter just clicks. Replace

Derek,
"Clicking" means that the battery terminals need to be cleaned.
Remove both batteyr cables and clean the cable clamps and battery posts. You will probably not need a boost to start.
Also check the negative cablle where it connects to the engine ground. The cable may be loose, damaged, corroded or otherwise not making a good ground connection.

SOURCE: Put new (rebuilt) starter on last weekend, this

Bummer. Sometimes rebuilt starters are not actually rebuilt, but repaired. this means they fixed the issue, but did not replace bushings, brushes, etc...

try hooking up a wire to the actuater terminal of the starter (usually the small one at 2 o'clock position) and connect test light to it an ground the test light. Run this wire inside the cab so you can see it...When you turn to start, this light should light. Run vehicle until problem happens again and if the light illuminates, the focus is the starter, if it does not, you need to look at the entire circuit. Look carefully at neutral safety switch and connections..

Testimonial: "Appreciate the info, I will try what you suggested this weekend. Thanks!"

When I go to start my car it will click several

The symptom you describe sounds like a voltage drop between the starter (ignition) switch and the starter solenoid. Some causes are:
1 Faulty ignition switch - either replace or, if you're mechanically minded, try to strip the switch and clean the contacts. This is a tricky fix because these switches are not made to be serviced.
Before you go there, however, check all the connectors on the wiring harness between the ig. switch and the starter solenoid and clean them if necessary. To make sure you have a voltage drop, connect a volt meter between the battery positive and the starter pick connector, then turn the key to start position. If you measure a voltage, anything more than 1 volt, you have a problem. Another check is measure from the battery negative to the pick wire, Turn the ignition to start, and you should measure 12 volts, not less than 11 v.
Here is a quick check you can try. There are three connections on the starter motor solenoid, two heavy ones and one small one. The small one is the solenoid pick terminal. Remove the wire from this connector and connect a length of wire from the connector and touch the other end to the battery positive terminal. The solenoid should click in and the starter should engage every time you touch the battery terminal.
If this happens, you can be sure the problem is not with the starter.
If all else fails, you could fit a booster relay to the starter.
This involves mounting a relay somewhere near the starter motor. You can get a relay from a scrap yard, most modern vehicles have headlight relays which will work fine, which are mounted on the under hood fuse box. The relay should have two heavy terminals and two smaller terminals..
Run a wire from the battery positive to one of the heavy terminals on the relay, and from the other heavy terminal to the solenoid pick connector. Bring the wire that used to be connected to the pick connector and connect that to one of the small connectors on the relay. The other small connector on the relay goes to ground (any bare metal point). I hope this helps.

94 ford escort lx. Only clicks at relay when trying to start. Replaced battery, ignition relay, neutral safety switch, ignition switch, starter tests good. Power going to starter but no power to exciter...

if you have battery power on the large terminal at the starter and the same on the smaller wire when someone Is turning the key to start and the starter has a good ground then the starter is bad drawing too much amperage causing the clicking sound.

Won't crank won't start

There are two starter relays in this vehicle. One is in the fuse box, the other right on the starter. Pull the fuse box starter relay. Check for battery voltage on two of the cavities in the socket when you turn the key to the START position. If you see that, then check for ground on one of the other two cavities. If you see all those readings, try swapping the starter relay with another one of the same size and type.

Turn key to start and nothing

Low or dead battery most likely, use this procedure to trouble shoot the system:
READ THIS ALL BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING
NOTE: some vehicles have the starter relay and starter mounted together as 1 unit. Sometimes the starter relay and starter are seperate. When I refer to "relay" it could also mean the starter and relay as 1 unit.
Note: "starter switch" is not to be confused with "key switch", although sometimes they are all one unit. The starter switch is usually mounted on the steering column and actuated by a metal rod. On units that are all one unit, the keyswitch/starter switch (both one unit) will have to be replaced. (this is a rare problem, so don't get worried just yet)
1. Check battery voltage, should be between 12.5-14.5 volts. if low voltage replace or charge battery, and try to start car, if it don't crank with new or charged battery, move on.
2. Check connections on the starter relay, even the small one coming from your starter switch. if loose or corroded, clean with a brush and reconnect them. Try to start your car. Did it start? if not, Move on
3. Well now we know the connections aren't the problem. How about a click? did you hear one? If a click is heard, go to #4, if nothing is heard, go to #5
4. Well at least the relay is clicking, but nothing else is going on. The relay is working, so the starter must be bad. Replace the starter and start your car!
5. Humm, connections aren't the problem, maybe the relay is bad, replace your relay with a new one. Move on
6. Now we have a new relay, with clean and tight connections. Start your car. Does it start? If yes, then HORRAY! we fixed it. Does it click? If so then goto #7, If it don't click, then goto #8
7. So here we have a new relay, with good connections that will click when trying to start the car, but nothing else happens. Starter is faulty, replace the starter, and off you go, see ya!
8. So here we have a new relay, with good connections, but it still won't click when we try to start our car. This means that your starter switch is faulty. Replace starter switch and try to start your car. Vroom! finally done with this car problem!
List of shortcuts: if you remove the starter switch lead (small wire) from the relay and apply +12v to its respective prong or lead on the relay, and your starter cranks, your starter switch is faulty. You can actually hook up a starter button this way. If you jump the two large wires together on the relay and it cranks, then the relay is faulty. If you jump the two large wires together and nothing happens, then starter is faulty, or wires to starter are loose or broken.
