Problem for Mitsubishi 1998 Diamante
1998 Mit Diamante starter & alternator problem
What would be a reasonable cost to replace the starter and alternator in a 1998 Mitsubishi Diamante? Mine is in the shop and I am waiting on an estimate. I'm a single lady so I don't have a man to help me know if I am getting ripped off or not. What should I expect when I get the call with the estimate?

- I do not know the hourly rate. I left it there on Friday, they told me from preliminary test that it appears to be starter & alternator problems and that they would call me with an estimate on Monday. I was having problems starting the car and when I left it at the shop, it wouldn't start at all for them. They said they tapped on the starter and it started so that is how they knew the starter is bad. Also, my car has went through a lot of batteries since I bought it new, probably 5 or more. They said that the alternator would need replacing for that issue, but I had the alternator replaced about 2 yrs ago already. I live in the Atlanta area, if that helps any as to what I should expect on the hourly rate. All this "not knowing" I have going on is why women get ripped off when taking their cars in for repairs. :-( Thanks for any help you can give me.Jul 05, 2009

- How do I know if the alternator I had put in just two years ago is bad. It seemed to be a starter problem and now they are saying alternator needs replacing as well. What would the car be doing if it needed an alternator?Clarification Request

ok... I need a little clarification. what is the shops hourly rate? also if they folow ASE set time rate for parts installed. I will give you an example. a thermostat should take an hour and at 65 dollars an hour that would be 65+part price+enviromental charge (if appllicable)= why are they replacing the starter and alternator.
