sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

If the security system has been triggered this will shut down not only your starter but also your fuel pump. the most comon cause on a passlock II system is the wiring at the ignition lock cylinder breaks causing the computer to not be able to see the resistance chip in the key. you will most likely need a new ignition lock cylinder, keep in mind that you need to have the new cylinder keyed for the original key otherwise if you use a different key the security system will see the wrong resistance and you are back to square 1. your local dealer will be able to read the resistance of your original key and get you a cylinder to match.

The problem sounds like it was the battery the whole time. Your battery can have all the volts in the world but if it does not produce enough amperage it will not turn the starter over. This sounds like a dead cell issue. To be sure, Disconnect the Negative battery terminal and connect the vehicle for jumping but put the ground cable someplace on the block. Start the vehicle and disconnect the jumper cables. If the vehicle continues running the Alternator is doing it's job and you need to replace your battery. Another way to check for a dead cell in the battery is to get a cell tester from Walmart or an auto parts store and test each cell. Also you could take the battery to the Auto Parts store and ask them to test it. They will test for charge and Load capacity.

Where are the bolts located to remove starter from 2006 chevy colbalt

I had a suspicion, so I checked. Sure enough, this is one of those fantastically engineered engines with one bolt visible, and the other INSIDE THE FRIGGIN' BELL HOUSING.

Have fun getting to that one. :p

Where is the starter on a 2000 pontiac bonnville

The starter is located where the engine and transmission bolt together. it would be near the drivers side of the engine in front near radiator, not the fire wall, bottom of engine. you have to replace it from under the car. make sure you disconnect the battery first. 2 bolts mount the starter to the engine. the bolts go straight up through the starter housing into the engine block. wires from the battery and start signal wire are mounted on the starter solenoid. they must go back on the proper connection on the new starter. Some new starters come with 3 terminals for wire connections. make sure if your old starter has only 2 connections and the new starter has 3 you connect the small wire to the small terminal marked by an S on the solonoid.

Why does my 99 pontiac grand prix gtp supercharge keep stalling

I would check the idle air control valve before replacing anything.
The computer regulates the idle speed by controlling the amount of air entering the intake thru the throttle body.
The valve could be faulty, or the throttle body can be gummed up.
Is the check engine light on ?

How do you change a starter for a 99 grand am se? Do you have any schematics that illustrate?

the starter is located on the front side of motor and is bolted to the transmission with two bolts. Raise the front of vehicle enough to get under and have room to work, block car securely before climbing under. disconnect the positive battery post from battery, proceed to remove starter and then remove wires from starter. to install hook wires to same locations they were removed from and install starter motor, install positive battery post connection and done.

Can I take a super charger out of a Grand Prix GTP and fit it on my Grand Prix GT 3.8L V6?

Well, the short answer is "yes". But - it isn't nearly as simple as just bolting the supercharger onto the intake and VOILA!, now you're supercharged. The procedure that you're inquiring about is commonly referred to as a "top swap", and there are numerous parts you will need for both engine as well as the transmission. Why the transmission? Because the GT and GTP use different gear ratios and the GTP has a 4T65HD as opposed to the 4T65E that is in the SE/GT. You will also need to have the PCM reprogrammed to accomodate all of these changes.

HERE is a great website that has a ton of very useful information, regarding this and many other Grand Prix topics.

Hope this helps and thanks for using FixYa!

Can I clean my Maf sensor and throttle body myself on a 2000 pontiac grand prix GTP? What are the steps? Is it necessary on 94,000 miles.

Yes it will help car run better. Take off any hose that goes to card so that you can see down throttle bore. Start car. Grab throttle linkage and figure out how to move it so that you can make the engine go faster. Begine to spray inside throttle body using little red hose that came with carb cleaner. While you are spraying the engine will try to cut out move the throttle linkage to speed up the engine so it won't cut out. Keep spraying all around inside and outside throttle bore.
