Find the fuel filter

Engine and oil light is on and will not start. want to find out if it is the fuel filter or fuel pump.

The fuel filter in newer cars is usually located near the fuel tank but don't crack the system open straight away, it will run pressurized so you have to take out the fuel pump fuse, crank the engine to suck what fuel it can, then you can open up the system

When the check engine light comes one, that means there is a code waiting to be read. If you let a place like Autozone read it, that may help.
Pumping the pedal only works on carbs, and does absolutely no good on fuel injection.
To check the fuel system, the very first thing you always have to do is put a fuel gauge on the fuel rail.
You could have a vacuum leak, like a broken hose, bad PVC, loose gas tank cap, etc.
But backfiring is usually bad plug wires.
Pull the plugs and look for ones that are different and wet or sooty.

Hot starting problems are usually fuel related. When a hot engine is shut off, the temperature of the engine and everything on it continues to rise for awhile as the engine undergoes a period of "heat soak." This can cause fuel to boil inside the carburetor bowl, fuel lines and fuel filter. When you attempt to restart the engine, "vapor lock" obstructs the flow of fuel and the engine doesn't want to start.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the pump continued to run after shutting off the car you fuel pump relay was probably staying latched. I would replace the relay as well based on your info. Along with the pump the fuel filter should be replaced too and fuel pressure should be checked. Make sure your ground is good also.

My engine won't start.

The oil light began to flicker beacuse of low oil pressure with the lower RPM I expect. Four things for your engine to run: 1, Spark, 2, fuel 3, compression and lastly the timing.
While running at higher RPM how well (or poorly) does the engine run?
This may be as simple as a clogging fuel filter, low pressure = poor fuel stream which = poor performance.
May be the fuel pump failing too.
Other ideas; starved for air, very dirty air filter?
Also corld be crank, cam or MFA sensor too. Sart easy with the fuel filter and work from there.

The oil warning light comes on and the truck want run then and it has great oil pressure and full of oil to,

Replace the oil pressure switch on the engine. They do go bad. also the switch is used to run current to the fuel pump upon starting everytime. When the oil pressure reaches normal pressure the computer shuts it off and the sends a signal to the fuel pump relay to take over running the fuel pump
This oil switch has three wires attached to it

Check fuel pump pressure and fuel pump regulator. It sounds like you are not getting fuel into the system and if you are you are not getting enough fuel into the system

Engine lite stays on all the time and how do i change fuel pump on my 93 dodge spirit?

Okay....this is for the fuel pump:

  1. Make sure the negative battery cable is disconnected. Have a metal cup handy to collect any fuel that may spill.
  2. Place a drain pan under the oil filter, then remove the filter with a strap wrench or equivalent.
  3. Disconnect the fuel and vapor lines, catching fuel that spills. Dispose of any spilled fuel safely.
  4. Plug the fuel lines to prevent leaks.
  5. Remove the attaching bolts and remove the fuel pump.
The fuel pump is NOT repairable. It must be replaced as a complete unit. Always use a new gasket when installing the pump and make certain that the gasket surfaces are clean.
To install:
  1. Clean the fuel pump and engine block gasket surfaces of all old gasket material or dirt.
  2. Position a new fuel pump gasket against the engine block, then situate the pump in position over the gasket with bolt holes lined up squarely. Install the retaining bolts and tighten them to 21 ft. lbs. (28 Nm).
  3. Connect the fuel lines to the pump (always start fuel line connections by hand-before using a wrench to tighten) and tighten the fittings to 175 inch lbs. (20 Nm).
  4. Clean the block surface, check the gasket, then install the oil filter, tightening it by hand only. If the gasket is damaged, replace the filter. Refer to Section 1 for the proper service procedures regarding oil filters.
  5. Start the engine and check for leaks. Check the crankcase oil level and refill as necessary.
It's on the side of your engine block.

Engine light comes on and wont go faster than 90 kms per hour back speed off and light gos off

the engine light is a run safe feature. it could meen low oil, fuel blockage, low coolant and, if diesel, water in fuel filter.
Check all levels, and if ok, it colud be something more serious like oil pump, water pump or oil filter.

The yellow oil light comes on for about 5-10 secs when you start the car from cold, and then goes off.


The usual problems that would give you a delay in the oil warning light going out are...

1. Oil contaminated by fuel, and thin due to fuel injection system problems, and fuel draining into sump.

( How long ago did you last change the oil and filter ? Usually about....1 Yr or 12.OOO Mls)
Wipe oil from engine dip stick on tissue, and smell it for fuel !

Have you noticed you use a lot of fuel lately, and the car blows black smoke from exhaust on hard acceleration ?

2. Oil Warning light transmitter faulty. ( The Most Common !)
3. Oil pump pick up strainer clogged.
4. Oil pump faulty.
5 Oil draining back into the sump from the oil filter.( Faulty check valve )

If I were you, I would change the Oil and Filter, and renew the Oil Warning Light Transmitter, and go from there.
If you have a Master Oil Pressure Guage, fit it to the block when the O/W/ Transmitter is off, and run engine to confirm pressure is there from start up, and what it reads when hot, this will put your mind at ease.

4JX1engine cut off and not starting

Its the oil ! 15/40 is too thick it should be 5/30 or 10/30 fully synthetic .
The woosh noise is ok just the erg flap coming open .
