It's likely a bad glow plug relay found on the left fender well. You may have bad glow plugs as well. You should hear a faint click when you turn the key to glow psn. . Open the hood and have someone glow it. The click should be abvious and the wires will run from the relay to the glow plugs. also obvious.

SOURCE: car problems

Sounds to be a loose or corroded wire/s at either starter motor or at battery fusible links.
Also check the earth strap (Cable) between engine and bodywork.
Hope this helps, MMP

SOURCE: need to change glow plugs on a mercedes C220D 1998

dont bother too much with thebullshit recipe .mercedesbenz were built in a cold country and have the cold start tecnique off pat .you need to establish if all the glow plugs are working .,if the engine misses and runs rough when it does start then the glow plugs are not all working but you need to test them with a test light and i would be inclined to think you will need to replace them. do them all as the ones that do work will stop soon.they all seem to go around the same time------------"youdoit "

Hi
It sounds to me like it could be a glow plug fault !
The glow plugs heat the diesel before it combusts. An easy way to diagnose this is check your exhaust after cranking on a cold morning if you have thick white smoke then you've probably got a glow plug down on 1 of your cylinders or maybe more
Hope this helps Nick

Mercedes c220 wont start

Hi
Did you mean oil light ?
If so.... have you checked your engine oil level ?

If this is a diesel, perhaps you mean the cold start glow plugs light ?

If this light does not go out, the problem is in this department, normally fuse or the relay.
If it is really cold, this is why the engine will not start, as the glow plugs are not functioning.

Good Luck !

Don´t forget to give me a FixYa rating, almost a Guru !

Wont start sometimes, rough idle.

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. If your car has a lot of miles (200k miles is pretty common), then it's likely.

Once something breaks loose in the ignition switch, well basically you got lil pieces of metal floating around making contact where they shouldn't, which create the scenerios you're talking about.

The glow plug light may or may not be related. But you won't know til you get that first problem fixed.

If the rough idle eventually smooths up after it warms up, then yes, you probably need to look at the glow plugs and/or glow plug relay.
