While driving heard and felt a rumbling. The car coasted to a halt and wouldn't move anymore. When I shift the car in gear nothing happens, car wont move. Wheni put the car in reverse or drive, I hearsome kind of metalic dragging noise. Any ideas other then the trans just being gone?
Linkage could have popped into a different spot. Look to see if there is any physical damage to the transmission. Also if its rear wheel drive it could be damage to the rear differential or if its a 4x4 or awd could be the transfer case. There is a number of things it could be but need more info to go on.
Sounds like the transmission is shot need to get it repaired or trade it in for a new car

If you have no reverse then yes it needs to be rebuilt. as far as the whining it could be in one of the differentials. or in trans? just depends on where you hear it

if the shifter is loose and sloppy feeling then the shift cable bracket has come loose under the dash at the steering wheel. remove the lower panel under the steering wheel so you can see under the dash then get flash light and look while jiggling the shifter. you should be able to see the cable and bracket. if the bracket is loose then tighten the bolts. note this bracket is at the steering colum.

You sould have been moore frequent on your transmission fluid changes, and you shouldn't have taken it to Jiffy Lube either. Your best bet is to drain and fill the trans fluid run it shift gears. Drain and fill again. Do this 3 times. Yeah the transmission fluid is expensive. on the last drain and fill you want to get a bottle of LUBE GUARD from NAPA or who ever sells it. put the whole 10oz bottle in. Shift Rev, 1, 2, 3, D. Neutral Rev D. If that don't work then you have bad seals.

most likely the shift tube bushings are bad- you may have also lost a few screws in the shift tube or they could just be loose. you have to pull the steernig column down to inspect/repair it.

Sounds like a linkage/cable to me. Disconnect the linkage at the transmission and move the shift actuator by hand to see if there is the same things happening. Don't try to do this with the engine running unless someone is holding the brake inside the car.
