No they dont make a partial gasket kit... unless youve damaged the oil pan gasket, the one that ison there should be fine... put some black silicone rtv sealant where the front cover and oil pan/ block meet. if youve damaged the gasket you have to drop the pan.

Changing 1997 ford explorer 4.0

have you bothered to line up the timing marks to actually see if the chain slipped or are you just guessing this? do the exposed gears till have the teflon teeth on them or is the chain eally loose on one side and wiggly? these sometimes have a flat tensioner that has a teflon coated face on it..when pressed in you can manually walk the chain out by hand and remove it..look at the tensioner and see if all the teflon is gone or most of it to reveal an aluminum backing plate.. the harmonic balancer needs a puler to remove it this can be rented from autozone for free(a deposit is required but returned when you take the tool back) you can block the engine from turning while removing the main balancer bolt from the crankshaft center this takes a 3/4 socket or some number close to that...counter closewise to remove..then attach the puller and run the center stud o the puller in with a socket ratchet setup..this will remove the harmonic ballancer for you.. the parts store an instruct you how to use this...repost findings...

I have a 96 ford explorer v6 with a pushrod motor and after we replaced the pushrods, the head gaskets, the valve cover gaskets and the fuses, the car will not idle. what could be the problem?

Have you adjusted the pushrods properly? Pushrods generally need to be adjusted after installation.

Not sure how to do this on this model, although I own a 94 Ford Explorer with the V6 4.0 Liter motor.

Basically, when a gas engine doesn't run, you check 4 things, and narrow it down from there.

1. Gas (Is gas pressure good, is gas flow strong enough?)
2. Spark (are all spark plugs firing properly? Is spark strong enough)
3. Combustion at each cylinder (timing, pushrod adjustment)
4. Air Flow (MAF/MAP sensor working? Air Filter dirty?)

Water leak from timing chain cover on a 1997 ford f-150 how do I replace the gasket?

Remove the water pump and harmonic balancer (use a balancer Puller). Remove the remaining bolts from the timing cover and the front four bolts from the oil pan. Remove the timing cover. Clean the old gasket from the block and cover . Reassemble. You may want to replace the pump as a maintainance item while it is removed.

1997 lumina 3.1 v6 timimg chain or timing belt ?is it in front or rear of engine ? is it doable by a fairly mechanicaly gifted person

Timing chain located in the front. Take the bolt out of the oil pan that the timing cover is bolted to. You have to take off the harmonic balancer to get the cover off and that takes a pully puller to get off The "how to" can be found in a Haynes manual but it might be better off taking to a good local mechanic. The timing chain is 80 bucks and the labor should be about 240. Someone doing it on the side should do it for half that.

Part requirments for Cam and lifters

Yes you will need the following:

Cam
Lifters
Assembly lube
Water pump gasket
Intake gasket
Timing cover gasket

Lifter removal tool
Puller for harmonic balancer
Cam installation tool/removal tool

I also would recommend replacing the timing chain and timing gears since you are going to have to take the timing chain off anyhow.

You will also need the associated tools to do the job, plenty off rachets, box wrenches and such.

If you are doing mechanical lifters you will also a feeler gauge to measure the valve clearance and make adjustments.

I cant think of anything else off the top of my head.

If you are doing a cam with more lift then I would recommend replacing your valve springs as well, it is easy and it will assure you do not incur valve float. You will have to take the rockers off when you install the new lifters because you have to remove the pushrods. I also recommend you replace the pushrods while you are at it, they are cheap. You will need a valve spring compressor and new valve springs and locks, they are pretty cheap.
