Sounds like a vacume leak from power break booster, when you loose vacume it will stall out the engine if enought vacume is lost. chk. power break booster. and hose from engine leading to booster for vacume leak, booster is under hood, break master cyl. bolts to it.

You need to see if you have fluid in the master cylinder's resivoir.. low fluid or no fluid could be a low break pads or out of adjustment problem ....if fluid is low add dot3 break fluid..and step on the pedal a few times...if the level seems to hold it could be out of adjustment or low pads . If the fluid leaks out then you have a leak and must attempt to find it yourself or with a mechanic. It is possible you may have air traped in the system and it may need to be bled out by a mechanic. I say a mechanic because this is a crittical safety system needed to stop the car !! If you are not sure of how to repair a leaking brake line or caliper or master cylinder leave it to a pro . At least you may be able to find out what is leaking with this help .

Hello;
Yoou most likely have a vacuum leak in the line from the booster to the intake. It could be a bad booster or check valve as well.
Thanks;

with the sound of air when applying the brakes, sounds like a bad power brake booster, located behind the master cylinder,large round peice

This is not a rich mans car so its normal. Your hearing the solinod that lets you take the car out of park after the brake is depressed so the car can't be put in gear unless the brake is on. If the noise bothers you the soliniod can be found and wrapped in insulation like a rich mans car them you can ride on feeling like a rich man too. ( the Beatles sang that a long time ago) and its still true today.
