my accent has 145k km on it. two days ago it stopped shifting into reverse. i can still drive it but it shifts late and hard from 1st into 2nd and when it reaches 4th gear it stays there and won't down shift. I took it into the dealership and they told me i had a 4 gear ratio problem and that i need a new transmission. just wondering if you have seen this before and if it may be something fixable. just don't want to be ripped off by a dealership
Usually transmissions are not fixable. If you're on the original transmission with 145k miles then it's probably had it's life. You could keep driving it like that but it's gonna die soon. I suggest replacing it or buying a new car, whichever is cheaper. A new transmission will cost a couple thousand depending on the year of the car.
My brother has the same problem with his and its at the transmission shop right now having tests done...it could be a sensor issue...the electrical system is sending wrong message to transmission...that's what mechanic said anyway, but wouldnt know for sure until he did troubleshooting tomorrow....

I have more wiper circuit trouble. Fuse keeps blowing. The problem has been intermittent for almost a year, so it has been difficult to get a diagnosis. I first suspected the most obvious problem, the wiper motor. I removed it, intending to buy a new one, but the fuse blew when the motor wasn't even in. I removed the washer pump next, but the fuse still blew. I tried removing the relay, and it still blew. I tried disconnecting the switch on the steering column, and it still blew. Those are all the components in the circuit as far as I know, so I assumed a short somewhere in the wiring. The problem was the intermittent nature of the short. Well now it has finally stopped being intermittent, and has become constant. The fuse blows now whenever I turn the key to on. I don't have a short circuit detector, but I do have a multimeter. I would like some advice on how to proceed with finding the short.

Still having problem with wiper fuse blowing. The good news is it is not intermittent anymore. The fuse blows as soon as the ignition circuit engages. if I try to replace the fuse while ignition is set to on, it blows right there in my hand. Any ideas on how to proceed?
