The timing was ok, I just put a gun on it to be sure, I will try removing the vac line off the egr valve. If it dose inprove what will that mean? thanks for your time

just tried removing the vac line off the egr valve although the truck was cold it was backfiring more than ever

  • uchotsix Jul 05, 2009

Still running bad back firing constantly, the next thing I will try is installing a new fuel pump once I get one from the states as I am in Australia. Thank guys for your input keep them coming I need this think fixed soon. stress

  • uchotsix Jul 07, 2009

no I don't have a fuel pressure gauge to test the pressure going into the tbi, yes it was backfiring before I replaced the cap and rotor but not as bad, it dosn't seen to be popping up thru the throttle body only when I am trying to start it once it is going it backfires out of the exhaust, again thanks for your input I hope I/we can solve this problem, the truck has been a nightmare since I brought it.

Mine did the same thing, I replaced the coil and the fuel pump at the same time - problem solved, but since I put them both in at the same time, I don't know which one actually fixed it. Start with the cheaper of the two, or even get a coil at the salvage yard. Hope it helps, I was going nuts as well.

Try driving it with the vac line off the egr valve. Was the ignition timing off?

  • Anonymous Jul 04, 2009

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge?

  • Anonymous Jul 07, 2009

Was it backfiring before you replaced the cap and rotor? Also Is this a repetitive pop up thru the throttle body? Have you done a compression test?

check that your map sensor has direct (unregulated) vacuum. I don't believe that the purge solenoid can create that kind of problem.

Run rough low power gas smell

Hello
The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPEDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

1992 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 350 backfiring and headers glowing

You probably have a clogged up exhaust system building backpressure on the engine. Check your mufflers and catalytic convertors if you have them something is restricting the exhaust.
