How do i remove the steering wheel on a 1989 mazda b2200

Hi
  • 1st thing you want to do is position the steering wheel straight, easier when you put one back on. If it's never been removed before you might need the help of a puller
  • 2nd is to disable the horn. Easiest way to do that is by just removing the negative cable from your battery.
  • 3rd is to remove center wheel cover on the three spoke steering wheel you can just simply peel the cover off. On two spoke steering wheels (which is stock), you'll need to remove three or four screws on the back side of the steering wheel. Then pull on the front cover, unplug the horn wire from the connecter, and set the center section aside.
  • 4th is to loosen steering wheel retaining nut. With a 21mm or 13/16ths socket and maybe a breaker bar, you'll want to loosen the retaining nut that is holding the steering wheel on the column. Back it off until it is approximately flush with the end of the bolt. Leaving the nut on the end of the bolt will prevent steering wheel from hitting you in the face when and if you try to use your own strength to pull it off.
  • 5th is pull the steering wheel. Try and give a firm tug on the steering wheel while wiggling it right to left to pull it off the column.
As said above, if the steering wheel has never been removed before, it's probably going to require a gear puller or steering wheel puller. You can acquire one of these at your local auto parts store. Good luck

Anybody know how the horn wiring behind airbags is supposed to go? 1998 Chevy cavalier 2.2L. I'm replacing the airbags cover and don't know where the wire and ground goes...(

It is really very simple. The horn lead with the plastic connector and the spring pushes in and turns to lock in the large round hole at the upper left center of the steering wheel. If you look into the hole, you will see the contact down in there with a plastic "tube" with a slot in it for the horn connector to go into.

The ground clip (wire with brass or steel clip on it) simply pushes into the hole in the steering wheel center near the bottom (It grounds to the steering wheel center).

2005 Cavalier horn does not work. Stearing wheel airbag missing?

no connection between air bag and horn operation
the air bag is in a section but that whole section presses to activate the horn
can be on either side bottom or top will work the horn
probably right that there is no air bag
you will have to remove the wheel to check the horn contact under the center bit
check for a horn relay operation first

I own a 96 ford escort, the horn doesn't work when you press on the center of the steeting wheel, you can hear electric contacts making noise but he horn doesn't work, i'm fairly sure it's not a fuse...

Before taking apart the steering wheel, I would run a power jumper to the horn to make sure it works, the horn may have done bad.

Hope this helps

The horn on my 2006 Nissan Murano works only when the steering wheel is turned either direction, even if only a few degrees. When the steering is centered or near centered it does not work.

Its a short in the wiring. Its a wiring issue. You'd need to take of the covers above and below the steering wheel. Just get the horn wiring removed and reconnected. If its getting disconnected at when you center the steering wheel then the wire has to be connected. The horn contacts in the steering wheel became corroded. This is a common issue caused in many cars. The horn connections become lose or get pulled out due to loose.so removing the horn connections/cleaning and reconnecting the connection helps.

Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Where is the horn relay located on a lincoln 2002 ls v8. horn blows where alarm is press...but it will not work when i press the horn button insided the car?

If the alarm makes the horn work, then it is not the relay.
It is the horn contact or slip ring.
You need to take the cover off the steering wheel center.
But this could be dangerous due to air bags.
Disconnect battery first.
Steering wheel might have to come off.
Recommend a shop because most people don't have the tools for pulling steering wheel.

When i touch the steering wheel the horn will not stop honking

check the horn connection. You will need to remove the center cover from the steering wheel. You should see a lone wire with a connector end that mates to a tab. When this makes connection the the center of the steering column (ground in this case) the horn sounds. I would think that if you removed the steering wheel center cover you will readily see and be able to fix the problem.

This is not a hard job, just look the the underside of the steering wheel for the screws that need to be removed to release the cover.

Good Luck

The HORN Is a GROUND CONTROLLED BUTTON you need to FIRST Check under CENTER STEERING WHEEL Cover to see if it has a Bad Commectiot, After Asuring this there Is c CLOCK Spring UNDER Steering Wheel that is Fairly Common for Failing.

The FOB / Remote Utilizes a Different Part of the Curcuit to Activate Horn, I Hope this Helps you With your Problem as Im Sure of All that I Advised. Remember to RATE ME !!
