Question about Ford F-150

1 Answer

Help with changing spark plugs on a 1998 f-150 5.4L. I've heard it's quite difficult at home and pricy if taken to a shop. Anyone know about this? Story is the engine needs to be dropped on one side????? Or the exhaust manifold removed????? Help!

Wyatt-I had a shade tree mechanic change them for me a couple years ago, and he claimed he couldn't get one side at all. He claimed there was no way to get them out. Also, what would be the issue with number 4 cylinder if it is encountered? That's closest to the fire wall on passenger side, right? That one is real important as my code reader is telling me "misfire cylinder 4 and 5". Thanks!

No the motor does not need to be move at all. Just follow the plug wire to each plug which is located on top of the motor. Pull wire off and slide a spark plug socket with extension down into the head and unbolt. The only one that might give you trouble would be plug 4 on passengers side but thats on a Expedition and a F150 is easier to work on.

check your spark plugs, they are cheap from mopar, i have an 06 and it had the same prob, cam sensor, and the spark plugs were bad, the spark plugs did the trick

Need to change spark plugs on my 2001 mazda mpv. able to change front ones need to know how to get to the back ones. what do i need to remove.

It's a bi... I wanted to remove the top of my engine to do mine. You have to reach them up from underneath and see if taking off the front tire will help, it's all very difficult. A good shop light, spark plug flex socket with extension and a flex head ratchet.
Good luck and thanks for your question and I hope my suggestions help. burdfrenzy

Quits no spark for a while

It is most likely the thin wire that hangs off the side of the distributor. They often short out and have cracked insulation allowing them to short out. You can get a spark tested and connect it to on of the spark plug wires and crank the car and look for spark. If no spark there, check for spark at coil wire. If you have there but not at plug, you know the problem is between the primary and secondary system-meaning most likely the cap and/or rotor in the distributor or bad wire previously mentioned. Have you changed the cap and rotor yet? These are inexpensive and will often solve the problem especially when the problem is when it is damp outside. The problem is not the fuseable links on the shock tower, like the other person mentioned. It probably is a loose wire somewhere like the distributor wire.

2004 GMC Yunkon Denali is misfiring

it could be alot of things...you could start by routine maintnence( new spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter, oil change, the in line fuel filter) also take into consideration what kind of gas you are using...i know it sucks spending $100 a week in gas with your AWD 6.0 liter V-8...but if ur not running premium it could very well be your problem. I have also heard of the denali's having oxygen sensor issues...is it throwing a check engine code?
