Will have to remove interior panel to gain access to locking mechanism and manually release latch. Something could be jammed in it and binding it or mechanism could have come loose inside or some linkage inside has broken. I had one with a beer can crushed between door and door jam. good luck

How do you open the back door (no manual)

Rear hatch is locked or unlocked with a key. (if equipped) • To open the rear hatch, insert the key into the lock, turn it to the unlock position and pull up the rear hatch by pressing the handle (DOOR). You can also lock/unlock the latch (but not release it) with the central door lock system. • If unlocked, the rear hatch can be opened by pressing the handle (DOOR) and pulling the hatch up. • To close the rear hatch, lower and push down the rear hatch firmly. Make sure that the rear hatch is securely latched.

Hatch won't unlock

Donald: Here are some comments on SubaruForester.org : "We just got a 2007 Subaru Forester> and we absolutely love it.

I was wondering if anybody out there has a solution to this small gripe:

The only way to open the rear hatch is to first unlock the driver's> side door, then hit the unlock all button, then walk back and open the rear hatch. It sure would have been nice if the rear hatch had a slot for the key, or there was a button on the remote you could press.

Anybody else have this gripe, and is there a solution?
---------
Two presses of "unlock" on the key fob unlocks all 5 doors.
--------------------------
If it has a key, try that.
==========
My only suggestion is double-clicking the unlock button, while standing next to the rear hatch. I know that on my 2003, it's sometimes a matter of timing.
==================
I remember reading somewhere (can't recall where) that sometimes
if you are parked on uneven ground the rear hatch can be a problem
to open. If you are on uneven ground, try moving the Foz to a more
even place.

My 2004 Cadillac Escalade rear hatch won't open. No key hole so what do I do?

Double Click the DOOR OPEN BUTTON... (or 3-4 times) and that should work. If it does not, then you have an Internal Mechanical Issue.

If you can not get it open (Unlocked, You are going to have to take the Panel off and unlock it from the Inside.

Be careful NOT to break the Panel, it is a Tight Fit. But you can do it...

The inside panel of the hatch has to be removed to gain access to the locking mechanism which is stuck or unhinged.

I had this "problem" for a minute till I realized the hatch button will not pop until you UNLOCK the car doors. Hit the remote UNLOCK button and THEN push the hatch button. I hope this helps you !!

I can't lock the rear hatch door on my yukon. There is no key lock and the remote button locks all the other doors but the rear hatch remains unlocked. Also the button on the inside of the vehicle does not...

The lock is stuck in the "locked" position.
When you close the hatch, it is jamming the latch hook into the wrong area.

Manually open the hatch. Unlock the hatch (even tho the hatch is already open). there are two bolts holding the metal "loop", the loop has moved. Adjust the metal loop and close the hatch / lock it, etc.
