Question about 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

Vehicle will crank and run ok until it warms up and then the engine shuts down completely. If you try to crank it, it will turn over but will not start. The vehicle is not running hot, but if you leave it setting for about 15 min. it will crank back up and run for about 5 to 10 min.

Where is the crank position sensor on a 98 chevy malibu 2.4L? Also what is more apt to be bad, the crank position sensor or the camshaft position sensor?

If it is either sensor you will get a check engine light. So check this, A faulty fuel pump relay can cause the car to come to a complete stop while driving, its like running out of gas. It may be getting hot and shutting fuel pump down. Try swapping another relay of the same size, For the pump to see if its a bad relay. It may be is shutting the fuel pump down, when it gets hot.

2005 GMC Yukon Denali's computer shuts down after the truck warms up

sounds like a fuel problem, how many miles on vehicle? as a quick fix it would be worth using a fuel addative , you haven't said if petrol or diesel, if petrol get addative that covers the catalytic converter ,having a blocked exhaust system can cause engine to stall also get the OBD codes read as this will tell you what if any sensors/switch's are faulty

Ecm? how to diagnose if its failing? will it have a hard time starting? does it have anything to do with how that starter would keep turning over when the key released before but not now?

Its very rare to have an ECM go bad and still have the vehicle start and run.

The vehicle will start itself meaning if you turn the key to the crank position and let go the engine will continue to crank until it start. This is completely normal.

If you have an extended crank condition where it takes longer than normal to start the vehicle especially after a hot soak (the engine is fully warmed up, you swing into target for 20 minutes, and then try to start and it takes longer). This is usually caused by loss of fuel pressure. Two common problems that cause this are the fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pump.

Shuts down going down the road shuts off completely

vehicle shuts down while driving down road and does not start backup for at least 20 minutes, could be a bad crank sensor. if bad it will start and run fine, but it will keep shutting down until fixed.

2001 gmc c7 medium duty gas big block, after running a while it will shut down and when trying to restart it will not ingage starter till it cools down no dtcs,

what is running awhile? Time span. Do a headlight test
  • tiurn on headlights
  • if lights go completely out when you crank, The ground connection is bad
  • If they dim slowly, the battery is bad or needs a charge
  • If they go dim fast, the starter load is excessive.
  • Good luck. Ned. It sounds as though you have a charging system problem and the vehicle runs untill the battery is depleted. Charging voltage at the battery, engine running should be between 13.6 to 14.2v. no more no les..
  • Again, good luck.

Vehicle shuts down after reaching operating temperature

In side the left corner of the glove box is a cover....remove the cover and you will see 2 square relays...swap these one for the other and then try....these relays will fail..and when it does overheat it WIll shut the engine down.

Cold starts ok warms up shakes and stalls

check engine coolant temperature when it gets warmer, or at operating temperature, and verify that the temperature gauge is showing warmed up to operating temperature. If the coolant temperature sensor tells the computer the engine is cold it will over fuel and miss and the engine will die. When cooled down it will run fine until it warms up. Also could be coil if it starts missing after warmed up.
