Question about 1991 GMC Sonoma

1 Answer

I have a 1991 GMC Sonoma and the passenger side taillight was busted for about 6 months and in this time it filled with water everytime it rained. I have since got new taillights and new bulbs and now as long as the headlights are not on it works fine. When you turn the headlights on the brakelight on that side comes on and it does NOT blink when you turn the left blinker on and it makes the front left blinker go real slow. the brakelight on that side stays on al the time as long as the headlights are on. Whats making it do this?? Is it in the connector for the bulb or is it some kinda switch somewhere that has went bad?? I have done everything I know to do. Thanks alot

You have a bad ground conection.Remove the plug from the lamp unit.Check and clean with WD 40.Make sure that the bulb holders have not rusted away.If so replace.

Left blinker problems

That's an issue with wiring somewhere alont the line. There has to be a short somewhere. Hopefully for you the short is from the new taillight assembly being installed and it would be relatively easy to get to. Hope it helps!

All bulbs new but still dont blink on right blinker

The falsher unit on these vehicles is a thermal one therefore if the amunt of bulbs in the circuit is reduced then the flash rate is alot slower, remove rear bulb, clean up the bulb holder and the contact inside the holder.
Good luck Davelee

1998 gmc sonoma push button 4x4 busting diaphram vacuum actuator

On top of the transfer case is a vacuum switch with 3 vacuum lines connected to it. This switch controls when vacuum is applied to the vacuum actuator. This switch can fail partly and allow fluid from the transfer case to be sucked up into the vacuum lines and anything connected to them as well. When you replaced the actuator before, did you notice any oily fluid inside of it?
