You can not get to the fuel pump from inside the car. I have a 91 you have to drop the tank. BUT if you just have to. you can cut a 8in by 11in access panel in the center of the hump above the tank. You will need to use a non spark cutting tool like a air hammer. You will need 3 brass fittings 5/16 in I believe. (This is just an idea if you have to do it this way). I am not giving you this as advise. Just you could do this if you want to. Cut the hole so you can access the fuel pump from inside. You will have to cut the fuel lines one at the time. cut them in different locations from each other so the fittings will not interfere with each other. (room to fit and tighten these fittings) The fittings you will need are called compression. They are brass have small rings that fit over the line and compress to seal it. Once you cut your hole cut your lines remove the pump lines all as one part it takes a little finesse to get all out. Make a good fitting cover for your access hole and thats that. Clear as mud? this is just a (you could do it this way) but its not the right way. Drop that tank out the bottom take your rear end loose from the shocks, pull your exhaust hangers loose and let the muffler hang take the tank band loose get as much fuel out as you can. Jack the rear of the car up 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 feet to get the room needed to get the tank out. It is a tight tight fit be sure the car is secure because you will be pulling and jerking pulling and jerking to get the tank out. Work slow and careful.

Fig. 3: Note the alignment marks must be met to install the pump correctly
An electric fuel pump is used with fuel injection systems in order to provide higher and more uniform fuel pressures. It is located in the tank. To perform the testing or servicing, you will need a DRB III or equivalent scan tool.

  1. Release the fuel system pressure.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Open the trunk lid, then remove the trunk liner.
  4. Remove the access panel fasteners.
  5. Remove the access panel and gasket. Inspect the gasket for damage. If necessary, replace the gasket.
  6. Disconnect the electrical wiring from the top of the pump module.
  7. Disconnect the fuel supply and return tubes from the fuel pump module.
  8. Disconnect the hose from the pressure relief/rollover valve.
  9. A band clamp fastens the pump module to the tank. The module rises up from the tank after loosening the clamp.
  10. Loosen the band clamp until the pump module rises up from the tank.
WARNING The pump reservoir may contain fuel. Do not spill fuel while removing the module.
  1. To absorb any possible spillage, place a shop towel around the access opening. Without removing the modular, tip it backwards to allow fuel in the reservoir to run down the side and back into the tank.
  2. The float arm of the sensor catches on the inside of the tank while removing the module. Tilt the module to the one side when removing it from the tank.
  3. Remove the pump module and gasket from the tank.
  4. Drain the remainder of fuel from the reservoir before servicing the pump module.
To install:

The fuel pump module and tank have alignment marks. The tank has two molded lines at the ten o'clock position. The fuel pump has a triangular alignment mark. Align the marks to correctly position the pump.
  1. With a new gasket, insert the pump straight into the tank to set the float on the bottom. Align the marks on the pump and tank.
  2. Seat the pump to tank by pushing the top downward. Make sure the gasket does not slip over the outside or inside edge of the tank lip. While holding the pump in the seated position, place the band clamp over the lip of the tank and edge of the pump. Tighten the band clamp to 31 inch lbs. (4 Nm). Do not over tighten.
  3. Install the fuel tubes over the return and supply nipples on the module.
  4. Connect the vent line to the pressure relief/rollover valve.
  5. Attach the electrical wiring to the pump.
  6. Using a DRB III or equivalent scan tool, pressurize the fuel system.
  7. Check for leaks.
  8. Install the access cover and gasket. Tighten the fasteners.
  9. Install the trunk liner.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope this hellps (remeber to rate this answer).

Is the fuel pump located outside the gas tank or inside the gas tank?

HI. This vehicle has a fuel pump access cover located inside the trunk, under the carpet overlay. Once you have removed the carpet; the cover can be seen in the center section of the trunk bed. There are 4 retaining nuts that are holding the cover on the access hole. Remove the nuts retaining the access cover in the trunk and lift up the cover. Once the cover is removed, the fuel pump will be exposed for maintenance or replacement.

Where is the fuel pump on a 1995 eagle talon non turbo

1995-98 Vehicles
See Figures 7, 8, 9 and 10
On these vehicles, is possible to remove the fuel pump and/or gauge assembly by working through the access panel under the rear seat cushion instead of having to lower or remove the fuel tank.
  1. Properly relieve the fuel system pressure, as outlined earlier in this section, but keep the rear seat cushion off and the connector(s) detached.
  2. If not already done, remove the protector.
  3. Disconnect the fuel pump hoses and connectors, then remove the fuel pump from the vehicle.

0900c152800ad8d1.jpg Fig. 7: The fuel pump is located under the rear seat cushion
To install:
  1. For FWD vehicles, place the fuel pump in the vehicle, aligning the packing positioning projections with the holes in the fuel pump.

0900c152800ad8d2.jpg Fig. 8: When installing the fuel pump, make sure the projections are properly aligned with the holes in the pump assembly
  1. For AWD vehicles, perform the following:
    1. Check to be sure the fuel tank packing is not damaged. If it is, it must be replaced.
    2. Place soapy water on the inside of the packing, then install the fuel pump assembly. Do NOT tilt the assembly during installation.
    3. Apply soapy water to the outside thread of the fuel tank. Use special tool MB994180 or an equivalent spanner wrench to tighten the cap to the specified torque. Make sure that the marks on the fuel tank and pump assembly are aligned.

  2. For AWD vehicles, make sure the packing is installed properly, as shown in the accompanying figure.

0900c152800ad8d3.jpg Fig. 9: On AWD vehicles, you need a spanner wrench to tighten the fuel pump assembly cap

WARNING Make sure the pump assembly does not turn together with the cap when tightening the cap. If the mating marks are not aligned, the position of the flat will not be correct and the fuel gauge indicator light and gauge will not work properly.

0900c152800ad8d4.jpg Fig. 10: The fuel pump packing must be properly installed for sealing purposes
  1. For AWD vehicles, check for leaks as follows:
    1. Apply soapy water to the circumference of the cap.
    2. Choke the vapor hose and main hose, apply and internal pressure of 1.5 psi (10 kPa) or less from the return hose and make sure no bubbles form in the soapy water.

  2. Install the protector and attach the fuel pump electrical connector.
  3. Install the rear seat cushion.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

Hope this help (remember comment and rated this).

My fuel pump went out on my 1987 honda accord dx and everyone says it under the backseat but i cant find it do i have to drop the tank or wat please help fast. lim

I recently replaced the fuel pump on my 87 LXi. Drop the seat, and pull back the carpet from the trunk. You'll see two little round cover plates tarred to the floor right behind the seat back. Pry the driver side plate loose, and you'll see the cover for the fuel pump assembly underneath - it has a plug, a banjo bolted fuel line, and vent hose attached to it. Remove these, and remove 5 or 6 nuts with a 10mm socket, and lift the fuel pump assembly out, taking care to tilt it accordingly while lifting.

Before removing it though, take the plug loose and use a voltmeter to verify that you get 12vdc to the pump when the ignition is turned on. You should see the 12v for 2 seconds after the key is turned.

Hope this helps.
