1993 Grand Am SE V-6 Water Leak

I replaced the radiator and noticed that I ws still using alot of water/ Today the water leak became really bad and when I poured water in the reservoir it came straight back out the car. It seems like it is located in the firewall area of the car.Any ideas before I go and tear the dash all apart to look at the heater core ?

Is the water coming out of the a/c drain or is it one of the heater hoses going into the fire wall. If its coming out the a/c drain you need a new heater core. if its outside its just a rotten hose.

SOUND LIKE RADIATOR HOSES AND RADIATOR.ONLY WAY TO CHECK IS FILL UP RADIATOR WITH COOLANT.CRANK UP CAR UNTIL WARMS UP.LET RADIATOR PRESSURE BUILD UP.THEN TURN OFF CAR.LOOK FOR WATER LEAKS AT RADIATOR HOSES AND AROUND THE RADIATOR.

If steam is coming out of the exhaust it is probably the head gasket. I take it you are adding a lot of water so you have a big leak or a blown gasket. Check to see if water is getting in the oil, another sign of gasket leak.

My 2001 grand am has been overheating for a while now, its not leaking, there is no water in the oil, and we just changed the thermostat today and the problem wasnt fixed. We decided to look at the water...

If you have just replaced thermostat, then you need to fill up radiator with car running. Let radiator fill up, wait a while and the level will slowly drop as coolant is ran through engine block, then you will need to add more. Burping the raidator hose usually helps.

Make sure it is 50/50 coolant mixture. Also check to make sure exhaust is not plugged. and that you are using a 5w 30 or a synthetic oil

Replacing a water pump for a 1992 Cadillac Sedan Develle

First, you must exactly locate the source of the leak. Replacing the water pump will not solve your problem if it is leaking from the lower radiator hose.

Unless if the water pump bolts came completely out and your water pump is ready to fall off (very unlikely), water pumps normally leak through a "weep" hole which at best would show as a steady trickle.

The size of leak you describe sounds more like a split radiator hose ($20 + 1 hr to install).

Overheating

If you are wanting to sell it "AS IS", I would sell it and not put anymore money into it. As far as the overheating, try replacing the thermostat, or the water pump. Do you notice if you have white smoke or drips in the drive way? The smell of something like syrup?

Run the vehicle for about 15 minutes in the driveway and then start looking are the ground under the car for radiator fluid that is leaking. Look around the top of the motor too...paying attention to the large hoses and the sides of the radiator. Watch the water pump area also. If you have a bad water pump...you'll need to replace it.

WATER LEAKING

I am sure it is the water pump, the water is leaking from the pump and running down the hose. The pumps on these engines seem to last around 60-70,000 miles.
