Electronic engine control mechanism is not sending a signal to the engine so the truck wont start.

My interest in this is to be able to understand and respond properly to the dealer that has the car. I have no aptitude for auto repair.
I had the truck towed to the dealer on the advice of my local mechanic because he was not getting any "juice" (power? or signal) from the Engine Control Module. Local guy tells the dealer what he has found and suggests they analyse the ECM. This was very specific because the truck is old and needs body work to get inspected. If the electronic component is damaged or shot and real expensive, we will not put more $$$$ into the truck, it may be the end of the line.

However, if the ECM can be repaired/replaced or ignored, then we are back in business.

Meanwhile, I need to understand why the Dealer would have changed plugs and distrib. cap if he was informed of our intent to control costs and should have checked the EMC situation first. They insisted on changing these things first, though I asked about the ECM as the source of problem. Now they want $300 before they do more work.

    Any suggestions?

Dealer would have changed plugs and distrib. cap if he was informed of your intent because first he thought that problem is through plugs and distrib only, and also mechanics or dealer they are familier with problem when these type of problem arises..they normally replace flug and distrib and got the result also.
But is in u r case it is mainly due to ECM. dealers wrong in u r case, they can byback plugs and distrip if u r not intended to pay 300$ for that.just request to byback their parts already replaced.

Hi dvitanza,

Check for spark by pulling a plug wire and getting a paper clip and inserting it in the end of the boot and then hold the other end close to the block to check for spark. If it has spark check for gas by getting a fuel pressure gauge. If it has gas pressure check to see if the engine has jumped timing by pulling number 1 plug and spinning the engine over until a burst of air comes out of the cylinder. Hold you finger over the hole. It should be one of the three things above. Email me back if you need more.

if it still wont start hot

Check the distributor for oil on the optical shutter wheel. If you are sure you have fuel pressure then check the plugs for fouling as in a leaky injector or two. Next check for fire at the plugs. If the ignitor module is overheating it will not start as you describe. Email me back if you need more information.

regards

Electric Load Detector Circuit High Voltage

Possible causes - Faulty Electronic Load Detector Unit - Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM) - Electronic Load Detector Unit harness is open or shorted - Electronic Load Detector Unit circuit poor electrical connection
Possible symptoms - Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P1298 Honda Description The Electric Load Detector (ELD) measures the main current flow and sends that signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM) to command the alternator charging system to get fuel efficiency and decrease the drag of the engine when starting.

Why don't my 97 mountaineer start in cold weather?

There is a sequence for COLD starts that has a trigger from the water temperature sender. Some models have a sender for the dash gauge and a second water temperature sender for the engine controls. You want the engine temperature control sender.

The temperature sender sends a signal to the Electronic Module to set timing and fuel mix, and idle speed for COLD starts. This is the electronic version of the Choke. You can search the Web for particulars about voltage or Ohms at each contact pin. This can be done by yourself, but the wiring is quite fragile and mistakes can wipe out an otherwise good part. The temperature sender is a cheap part and may be stuck on the warm setting so that your engine never gets to reset to a COLD mode.

Is there a way to reset electronic throttle control light on 08 Chrysler town and country after it has stalled and wont restart?

No. There is not a scan tool can't either the pedal is not hooked up to engine with a cable. All computer analog signal with electrical wires. This is not one for most mechanics to diagnosos . they seem to have a issue with it. Anyways, take it to dealer. The pedal uses two sensors with oposote signals to determine position. The computer controls electric motor on engine that opens and closes throttle vale. Computer uses two sensors in throttle body to determine its position. If any of these four signals carries even slightly, nothing more than idle. Some will start and idle with no pedal response and other will stay at idle if engine was already started and once keep shuts off then won't restart. So take to dealer.

What is an ECM

Electronic Control Module, the engine management computer in plain English, the brain box in slang; some car makers call theirs an ECU (Electronic Control Unit), or a PCM (Program Control Module, or Powertrain Control Module), or ECM (Electronic Control Module). May even be other names for them. The engine computer uses several sensors (as inputs) to compute fuel requirements and spark timing (ignition timing) needed for the operating conditions at that moment, then it sends signals to controllers and switches (outputs) to run the engine at optimum efficiency.

Color of wires on iat sensor on a 2004 ford exploer 4.0 v6

I don't believe it has an IAT, (Intake Temperature Sensor). Heres what it has. Hope this helps. Cobra..
Electronic Engine Controls adobe.gif Printable View (63 KB) The electronic engine controls consist of the following:
  • powertrain control module (PCM)
  • throttle position (TP) sensor
  • engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor
  • camshaft position (CMP) sensor
  • crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
  • mass air flow (MAF) sensor
  • heated oxygen sensor (HO2S)
  • knock sensor (KS)
The PCM carries out the following functions:
  • accepts input from various engine sensors to compute the fuel flow rate necessary to maintain a prescribed air/fuel ratio throughout the entire engine operational range.
  • outputs a command to the fuel injectors to meter the appropriate quantity of fuel.
The TP sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating the throttle plate angle.
  • is the main input to the PCM from the driver.
The ECT sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating engine temperature.
  • voltage decreases as coolant temperature increases.
The CMP sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating camshaft position used for fuel synchronization.
The CKP sensor:
  • sends the PCM a signal indicating crankshaft position.
  • is essential for calculating spark timing.
The MAF sensor:
  • uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. Air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool.
The front HO2S:
  • creates a voltage signal dependent on exhaust oxygen content.
  • provides feedback information to the PCM used to calculate fuel delivery.
The rear HO2S:
  • monitors oxygen content after it flows through the catalytic converter.
  • provides a voltage to the PCM used to calculate catalytic converter integrity.
The KS:
  • is used to detect engine detonation.
  • sends a voltage signal to the PCM.
  • is able to provide a signal which retards the ignition timing, as necessary.
