If the mass flow sensor was bad, the check engine light should of came on giving off an engine code. To remove the mass flow, disconnect battery neg cable, then pull of the wire harness and pull out mass. You will probably have to remove the air intake hose.

I have a 2006 vw jetta 2.5, it codes for mass air flow sensor, temp control sensor, random misfire. I replaced the mass air flow sensor and temp control sensor and it still has a bad miss and is stalling...

Change the timing belt. My "educated" guess is that the belt has lost a couple teeth and jumped timing. I got the same codes for a Nissan frontier and when I took the belt off, it was missing several teeth in more than one spot.

P0101: MAF or VAF A Circuit Range/Perf

- Dirty mass air flow sensor
- Dirty mass air filter
- Mass air flow sensor harness is open or shorted
- Mass air flow sensor electrical circuit poor connection
- Intake air leaks
- Faulty mass air flow sensor

Before replacing the mass air flow sensor, try replacing the air filter and cleaning the air flow sensor with low compress air or mass air flow sensor cleaner. Reset code and drive vehicle. If the code comes back, it may be necessary to replaced the mass air flow sensor.

I have a 98 VW Golf (ABA engine) it keeps stalling at idle. I saw that it might be the mass air flow sensor, so I unplugged it and it smoothed out and ran great. I replaced the sensor and it still stalls....

Try cleaning throttle body with throttle body cleaning fluid. You can pick this up at any auto supply depot. Just follow the instructions on the spray.

My vw beetle stalls out. the mechanic first told

If it was the mass air flow sensor, you will have a check engine light. The small rubber hoses connected to/from the mass air flow connector might have come loose or have a crack, which will cause compression to be too low. Check there before replacing the maf sensor.
