Question about 2006 Ford Five Hundred

Unstable (Pulsing) Voltage Voltage on '05 Ford Five Hundred 3.3L

This has been an annoyance for months and has now gotten to the point where it needs to be resolved immediately. Periodically (More frequently when outside temp = >100F) the instrument panel shuts off completely and (apparently) resets itself before repeating. This (pulsing) began when my Ford dealer "repaired" the factory alarm system after it effectively crippled the entire Elec. Sys. and destroyed a new Batt.

Upon research I've noticed others that share this problem.

If this sounds familiar and you have put the issue behind you PLEASE advise.

I repair electronics for a living and have always worked on my own vehicles, so there's no need for wordy explanation if you are a professional doing a good deed.

Failing this method, It seems I will next consult Chilton or Hanes literature at a price I'm really not able to afford @ the moment.

If you have unstable voltage then you need to change your alternator to take care of the problem you are having.

    I have the same situation on a 2006 model. Instrument panel would shut off and then come back on and act normal. When that stopped, the battery light and engine light came on. By the code on the engine light, the EGR valve was replaced. Didnt help, replaced battery AND alternator. Results did not change. Took it to a different Ford dealer, he hooked it up and said immediately that it needed a new alternator. After then asking him to check the alternator connections, he made a comment that the alternator looked new. That is when he was told that it was only 1 month old. He replied with "well, you do get bad alternators" and refused to do anything until it was changed. I asked him if he would change it and then if the problem continues, would he reimburse me the $600 he quoted to replace it. With a quick "no", I then left and am still looking for a new mechanic. Oh, the instrument panel was replaced in the middle of all this as well. Frustrating to say the least.... BUT... I have had the car since new, drove it constantly on business and this is the first problem... so I am very happy with the car and just with we could figure out the problem....

cc738b50-5ca1-438b-b94a-d5ee1a50f74b.jpgYou are correct as far as a voltage regulator being located inside the alternator. No there isn't a seperate one for the computer and 2 of the wires going to the alternator go directly to the connector of the PCM. Not sure of you problem but am guessing you are having a charging problem. have you checked the fuse for the charging system ? If not it is in the fuse panel under the hood of the vehicle. In the fuse layout I have provided I have marked the fuse you will want to check. If you have a good fuse, have had the alternator bench tested and it tested out good, there is also 2 fuseable links in the wiring for the alternator. One of thos could be blown. You could have a wiring problem and the computer itself could be faulty but that's not very common.

Ford Five Hundred head lights and dash lights are flashing.

I would check battery voltage with a meter when the lights are flashing to check alternator output. Might be a ground problem.

Not familiar with the 500, but a MAP Sensor is a little 2"x3" black plactic box. with a vacuum line and wires hooked to it, usually located on the firewall with 2 screws.

Electric cooling fan on ford five hundred not

Check the fuse for the fan and you could test to see if you have a voltage running to the fan when the car starts to overheat. If you have no power to the fan then trace the wore and see if you cant find the problem. If you have power then the fan motor is most likely bad.

05 ford five hundred reset fuel shut off switch where is it???

i have a 2005 ford 500 and my fuel reset switch is on the passanger side under the glove box to the right. it is labaled. hope this helps

You need to apply pressure using a C-clamp big enough to push the plunger in on the caliper.
