You may have a factory alarm ignation cut out relay located in the drivers kick panel that stops the signal going to the starter does your key have a chip on it?

1989 Camaro RS starting problems. Will start when it wants to.Sometimes it will not do anything at all. But when it turns over, running very smooth. And then when I tunr it off,it will not start again....

if it starts when cold, but will not start hot, then it is a bad fuel injection system. if it is unpredictably intermittant, with no particular pattern, it may be corrosion on the battery cables/terminals (in need of cleaning), or your starter is beginning to fail.

I would think the starter you need would be the 90 camaro one, and not the 89 blazer, as you still are dealing with a camaro tranny and flex plate. Inspect your ring gear closely when you have the starter off, and make sure the teeth aren't buggered. Let me know what you find. Good luck.

I know you probably have already returned the old starter for the core charge but if you have not compare the old starter with a posible earlier year or later year starter to match them up or rebuild the old starter. Was the old starter acamaro starter or a Blazer starter?

89 iroc camaro starter wiring connections?

I'm assuming there are 2 wires. On most starters there are 2 threaded posts. One will be chassis ground the other one will be electrically isolated on an insulated standoff, this will be the positive (usually red) wire from the starter relay which is usually somewhere close to the battery. If there is only one wire then it will be the postiive and bolting the starter in is "connecting" the ground. Make sure the mounting area is clean.
